Sooo, I went this weekend to bury my beloved [bunny](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=190082), Bart. I went with my brother to a provincial park and we bushwacked a way back to find a suitable place for Bart to spend all eternity. Well, we found a good spot under a tree, but it was swarming with mosquitos. When I was bent over digging a hole, my shirt lifted up exposing about a 2 inch band of my low back. Which now has about 832 mosquito bites on it. And they are _ **SO VERY ITCHY** _. ::_scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch_:: ---

Yah - topped with the nasty cold I had, my weekend was pretty sucky. Benny, my other bunny had it worse though. He not only lost his brother, when I had him check out at the vet, the vet put him on a diet. Crap-city all round the Wonderland household. ☹ ---

Get some cortizone ointment and put it on the bug bites. It may be a little greasy, but it stops the itching. Your poor bunnies, and poor you. ---

Well, I have Benadryl but I’m reluctant to take it 'cus it makes me _SOOOO SLEEEEEPY_. So I have Aveno anti-itch cream which helps a little. Of course, I’m super reactive to the little beasts, so I’m all swolen too. There’s a bite directly over my spine which is not only itchy, it hurts too. **BAH** Stupid mosquitos. :mad: ---

“Bah!” at biting insects. Some people (like a lot of us in this thread, I expect) just seem to have bad insect karma or something. On a recent holiday I was in a group of people on a rainforest tour and advised beforehand that repellent spray was available. I also had my own supply of repellent cream available. I slathered myself in cream. Head to toe. Behind the ears, in the ears, between the toes – everywhere. _Gloop, gloop, slop_. Then I added the spray. _Pppsssssshhhhhhhhhh! PPPPSSSHHHHHHHH!!_ _cough_ “Aren’t you going a bit overboard on that stuff?” More spray. In the hair. Put hat back on. Spray hat. _Psshhh – ppssshhh!_ Back of legs, wrists, ankles, neck (_cough_) – most of a whole can, it seemed. Now we took these experiment subjects and put them in a bitey-insect environment (rainforest). Some people had used a bit of spray – some had none. Only one person was a walking cloud of chemical stink, with a greasy shine of insecticides and Og-knows-what over all his exposed parts\*. And only one person suffered badly from bites. Flippin’ scores of ‘em – I’d say about a hundred all told. “BAH!” at insects, I say. :mad: - ‘exposed parts’ doesn’t mean THAT! ---

I must sweat natural mosquito repellant. I cannot remember the last time I was bitten. I used to get bitten all the time as a kid, but the last, oh, ten-fifteen years or so I’ve not had one. ---

I just received a wonderful father’s day present of a mosquito net shirt that completely covers from the waist up, including the head. I can’t believe I never got one of these before. Anytime I do any gardening I’m a mosquito magnet. I sympathize wholeheartedly. Here, let me scratch for you ::_scratch, scratch, scratch_:: ---

I know it’s monday-morning quarterbacking, but I swear by vitamin B1. Massive doses make my sweat not palatable to mosquitos, and they stay away. ---

I work at a state park and the mosquitos are everywhere. I’m getting about 10-15 a day. Not as bad as 832, but a pretty good average if I may say so myself ---

What about an oatmeal bath? I’ve never tried that, but my solution to most bad stuff is to take a bath and sip some tea. And don’t scratch, no matter how terribly itchy itchy itchy you are! ---

I’m hardly ever outside! :mad: **alice\_in\_wonderland** , benedryl cream works _wonders_ of you slather enough of it on. Please try to stop scratching. I’m extremely reactive to the pesky things too, and I’ve ended up with huge bumps all over me too often because of scratching every time I felt itchy.
