I have a battery that is fully charged but won't start my plow truck I did a test on the alternator and it's good and charging, the starter is good also the only way it will start is by jumping it with my second battery or jumping it with my car

Magiver on my old battery that I had to jump I did it both ways. Made no difference. Also it’s was in a plow truck with two batteries. When it wouldn’t start I could jump my truck off the plow battery and it would start. I put all of that in my original post. Hope that answered you

David how did you or how do you post or put pics on here. Since I’m new I don’t know how to do it like your did. Thanks

Eagle, you have to use a picture-hosting website and link to your image from here.

I use imgur.com.

Once you have created an account on imgur.com, click on “New Post” to add an image. Then click on “Choose photo/video”, then select (from your hard drive files) the image you want.

When you have the image loaded in your imgur account, click on it, then click on “Image Link” on the right to copy the url. Next, come back here to the SDMB and paste that link in your reply in the thread.

Let us know if you have further questions, and welcome to the SDMB.

I know I’m in the minority, but the last couple times I purchased a new vehicle battery, I brought along my DMM to measure its voltage. While the open-circuit voltage is certainly not as good as a load test, it is better than nothing. I am looking for something in the 12.5 V to 12.7 V. If it is significantly low, e.g. 12.1 V, I’m going to let them know, and then ask to look at another battery. (I also have a portable battery tester now. I will bring it next time instead of my DMM.)

Mean_Mr.Mustard, thank you for that information. Have a great evening and the rest of the weekend and most of all be safe!

Nah. That’s just smart. “Trust, but verify.”

By the time I was going to suggest an open-circuit voltage test on the new battery, @Eagle12426 already had the charger on it

You are very welcome.

We have a specific thread in the “About This Message Board” section where you can test drive your new skills.

I’ve a plow truck too. And it has a winch on it (it’s on the back).

The battery takes a beating. I hooked up a battery tender to it. I’ve got it more or less permanently installed.

You have to unplug it every time you start it, but it’s worth it. I don’t have any troubles any more. It’s not fun jump starting a plow truck when everything is covered in a foot of snow. Not fun at all.
