I have a new obsession and I don't care who knows it: Steampunk.

Since Babbage and Girl Genius have both been mentioned, I’ll throw in The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage. It’s very steam punk.

The link is to The Origin, which was meant as a small tribute for Ada Lovelace Day. The artist, who mostly does designs for the CGI in movies, did it for a friend. When she posted it to her art blog, she discovered fans who wanted more. There are three main story arcs, now, in addition to the Origin and bits and pieces. Updates are slow because she has no intention of quitting her day job.

I’m completely enjoying Not Less Than Gods by Kage Baker. Which is under Scifi.

Ahh the one genre I keep bouncing back and forth on mostly due to my chair needing to be rekeyed. anyways most of what I would suggest has been said but if you want here is something on the manga front if you like http://www.gomanga.com/manga/hollow.php as far as steampunk based anime not too much comes to mind without it being mostly sci fi but will do a little research if you all want.

This is a heck of a home office.

Thank you for this thread and it’s suggestions, which led me to attending the 1st Annual Gaslight Convention in San Diego this weekend. The Mr. and I went as sort-of-last-minute steerage passengers, and I felt just a little guilty for not having a costume or personna, but wow…just WOW!! All we did was wander around Saturday, and the attention to detail and the sheer amount of FUN everyone was having was just amazing. The Mr. and I have both dabbled in the SCA, but have been a bit turned off by the…let’s just say a lot of people get quite anal about being 100% accurate at all times, which is great, and I appreciate it, but…

Maybe it’s because Steampunk is a much broader genre, but really, it was just…amazing.
And now I have a year to work on some costumes, since for next year…presuming there will be a second convention…we plan to stay the whole time and if possible in the same hotel.
This is just so much fun!!
Thank you again for the original post and all it’s replies; it’s turned us onto a new geek hobby.
And I really hope that someone else who was there longer starts a new thread, maybe with pictures; we definitely took some, but I’d love to see more.
ETA: Three cheers for Zed! :D:D I was this close to giving him my chinese hooch bottle that I picked up at one of the merchants, but really, zombies are so clumsy. He’d probably break it. >.<

Hi, Taomist, glad to hear you liked the con! I was there on a panel and was in the art show, but I didn’t have a chance to take many pictures. However, this guy’s site has pictures of most steampunk events in San Diego and environs and will certainly have many pictures of Gaslight Gathering up soon. He was the Official Photographer.

Awesome; thank you! Loving all the pictures
