Many years ago, I would tend bar at the University of Texas alumni center. One day, there was a temp who was new to Texas working next to me. After about an hour, he asked “Why do all these guys want me to give them a black eye?”
“What???”
“They keep asking for a shiner.”
“Give them the yellow can.”

In Maryland or anywhere in the area surrounding Baltimore, a “Natty” is a National Bohemian.

Everywhere else it’s a Natural-[whatever].

Fun fact: National Bohemian hasn’t been brewed in Maryland since 2000 (it’s currently produced in North Carolina and Georgia), but Baltimore still accounts for 90% of its sales.

I just have to complain about the poll, which leaves no valid answer for people who have tried it - no one who has drank Natty (or it’s Ice) is a fan.

That said, I drank the shit out of it in college. Cheap booze has its place on campus.

Heh, I guess there’s a gap in the poll. 🙂

I picked the first option for exactly the same reason.
I’ve had it, and like you, “not what I’d call a ‘fan’.” The 2nd option was a never-had, and the 1st option was for people who has-had.

Thirded. I remember it from college days… along with “Beast” (anyone know what beer that is?) and a host of other less prosaically named cheap beers like Icehouse, Red Dog, and one pool hall’s “mystery beer” (whatever kegs were on discount at the distributor that week).

I didn’t actually pay for that stuff; typically if I was paying, it was Shiner Bock or Lone Star (neither is a whole lot better), but I had cheapskate friends who loved it.

Back in college, the choice between cheap beers was Natty or Beast. Natty was my preference of the two, but was usually willing to spend the extra couple bucks for a 12 pack of Coors Light.

Beast, of course, is:

Old Milwaukee’s Best, or Old Mil-yucky’s Best

…a truly terrible beer.

I answered option 5 based on the thread title. If I’d read the OP and seen the reference to a 12-pack, I would have answered 4.

Add another vote from someone who went to school in Philly to “Though you were talking about Natty Boh, and had it but not a big fan.”

I picked that I knew what it meant though I never had it, because I thought that was the closest. I haven’t had it in years, probably decades (for either interpretation of Natty, come to think of it), and I certainly would not characterize myself as a fan.

You could’ve asked the question without giving away the"beer" category. Just ask: _“I have some natty in my fridge” Do you know what this means?_

I immediately thought it was weed. If I walked into your place and you asked if I wanted some “natty”, I’d say “I think I’ll start with a beer and work my way up to some o’ dat na\*-tay\*…”

</div>

I’m seeing a lot of posts that kind of say the following: "I can’t vote because there’s no option for “I know what it is and I hate it”. I didn’t include that because the main question here is “Do you know what I’m talking about or don’t you?” You either know what it refers to…or you don’t. If you do, you were supposed to choose the first or second one. If you didn’t, you choose the others.
“Liking it” or “Disliking it” has no bearing on the answer to the poll.

But I see what the main problem is now, the fact I specifically added “I’m a Natty Fan myself” to the first option (implying the voter for it LIKES Natty). Well, this was an oversight by me. A brain fart, if you will. I had assumed (and yes, I know what happens when one does that) that ANYONE WHO WOULD HAVE A PACK OF NATTY IN THEIR FRIDGE would have to be a fan of it. Otherwise, why buy it? Why buy shitty and cheap beer you don’t like? What, “Because it’s cheap”? Yeah, okay, bud. Just admit your a fan of cheap beer then. 😉
If you’re willing to settle for Natty even though you hate it, I would say you were a fan.
It doesn’t matter, though, it was my mistake for putting that last part in there. Like I said, it really is just “Do you know what I’m talking about or not?”…so all of you who have said “Yes, I do, unfortunately” or “Yes, and I’m not a fan” or some answer thereof…all you’re doing is getting linked–in my mind–in with option NUMBER ONE in this poll. 😛 Which–in my mind–is “Yes, I know what it is”; the only main point I wanted to know about.

We keep shitty beer we don’t like in the fridge (Coors Light) for visiting relatives who prefer it over my good stuff. It sucks when we don’t have any on hand, and my gf’s brother drinks my expensive stuff, all the while complaining about it.

In my defense, I’ll take Bud Lite Lime out on the pontoon boat. But yeah, I like mostly IPAs and sours.

Yeah, sometimes someone will bring shitty beer to our house for a party and it’s still there the next time they come over. One good use for shitty beer like Coors is to boil hot dogs or shrimp in it, basically if you were about to use water for the recipe, but then remember you have some canned (barely) flavored water in the downstairs fridge.

Gasp, you think Coors Light is actually beer?It is an insult to the idea of beer. [Beer: man formed civilizations to support making and drinking beer](http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/17/opinion/sunday/how-beer-gave-us-civilization.html), Coors is anti-civilization.
