I have wondered if Columbine and most of the later school shootings were perpetrated by minorities, how different the reaction would be. Was The assault weapons ban in the eighties a response to minority gangs and gang banger culture prevalent at the time? I tend to think so.
The Assault Weapon ban was a part of the 1994 Crime Bill. That bill was a lot of things but I’m not sure one could say it was a response to gangs and culture. It provided for more cops, more jail time, and even expanded the eligible charges for the death penalty at the Federal level. It Included the “three strikes and your out” provisions and other things that make it unpopular today, except for the AW ban. That is still every Progressive candidate’s dream.
I’m sure that Cory Booker and the rest aren’t going after minorities with their AW ban proposals. Most AW’s are owned by middle aged, boring, white dudes like me. They are rarely used for anything besides target practice or competition.
Sorry, Wrong decade. The nineties
