25 years next month, about the only good thing (well, two kids too) I got from my ex-. She said she’d move in with me if I gave it up, and I did, and she did, but otherwise I wish I hadn’t and she didn’t. ---

My last cigarette was about the middle of May, 2003. My next cigarette will be somewhere in October, 2003. I’m a Stage Manager for the local community college theatre department. I only smoke in the last half of a show (This one opens November 7; I anticipate the stress getting to be too much about mid-October.) I only smoke as a way of relieving stress. Usually, a pack will last for one show; anything left over, I give away to any smokers in the cast. But the last show I did (Machinal, May '03) took _two_ packs. Difficult show, difficult cast, difficult tech process. ---

I’ve been smoke free for 1 year, 2 months, 1 week, 1 day, 12 hours, 4 minutes and 13 seconds. 8730 cigarettes not smoked, saving $1,462.28. Life saved: 4 weeks, 2 days, 7 hours, 30 minutes. Hang in there **squeegee**. It’s harder than hell, but _so_ worth it! ---

Actually, I miscalculated. It’s just now coming up on 54 hours. Bah. The gum helps a lot, but I’m sick to death of it. Maybe some toothpick-chewing in in order. Why the fuck couldn’t I be addicted to granola or something, dadgummit. ---

I bought them by the carton and paid $33.50 per carton, or, $3.35 per pack (I smoked a “generic” brand called Basic). 3.35 ÷ 20 = 0.1675 each 8730 x 0.1675 = 1,462.28 (And no, I didn’t sit and do that long-hand in the above post. Tomorrow it will be two months. I quit on my 60th birthday. So did my husband. We’ve already saved $366. I’m glad we didn’t quit when I was 18. We would have saved only $30. ---
