I have been warned

God, you’re right. :smack:

My sincerest apologies to Mr Dibble.

I quess it would be appropriate if I opened a separate thread about the topic.

Thank you!

How can this be? In the example outlined, it is clearly the intent of the poster that the person is being ignored, which, as **Dex **stated

So, you can say “I’m ignoring you” is fine, and you can put that person on your ignore list (or not). But to say “You are on my ignore list” is a violation.

Can you say “I won’t see your reply unless someone quotes it”? This doesn’t state that the person is on your ignore list, just like the now approved “I’m ignoring you”.

The rule only applies to the ignore list.

Correct.

No. That clearly indicates someone is on your Ignore List.

This is the dumbest rule I’ve seen debated in a long time.

Seriously, I can insult a poster on this board, in the BBQ pit, with impunity. But anywhere else, it’s an insult that would make that same person crumble.

thanks for clearing this up.

Oh, and sorry for the difficulty in reading my posting… for some reason, I can’t quote the whole damn posting anymore with nested quotes.

You’re welcome.

It’s your world, boss.

I look forward to following the guidelines in this thread.

Glad to hear it.

I’m glad you are glad. Really, I am.

Now, I’m done replying in this thread to you. I’m ignoring you. However, that doesn’t mean I am putting you on my ignore list. That would be insulting. That also doesn’t mean that I’m not putting you on my ignore list. It doesn’t really matter, based on the information in this thread.

This really works!

That was easy.

This whole thing about a visible count of warnings is news to me, and I don’t see any such marks on anybody’s posts. Am I correct in assuming you can only see your own warning hash marks?

Apparently, I am an unmarked pussy. I did call someone in MPSIMS an asshole once – I can only assume the Mods accepted it as a statement of fact rather than an insult.

Correct.

Well . . .um . . . nah.

Or nobody reported it. It’s also possible you got warnings before we started using the infraction system, or that you got a mod note.

Boyo Jim: Here is a link to the thread where we discussed implementing the infraction system: Warnings/Infractions - Comments, Please - About This Message Board - Straight Dope Message Board

There’s a good chance everyone else in the thread agreed with me. Possibly even the poster I insulted, er, described. :stuck_out_tongue:

You know, the SDMB could make warnings a profit centre if the mods were restricted to rescinding warnings, and the authority to give warnings was held by the highest bidders.

Hey, I kind of like the idea of being able to buy a banning, or even a more democratic system --‘vote someone off the island’, as it were.
