I get imaging done on Sep 5. That’s the most frustrating thing: without imaging I don’t know how I’m doing. Oh well, I guess I just get to wait. ---

I’ve watched a few cancer cases from up close. One of the hardest things (at least for me) was/is the stop-start pacing. Months will go by while waiting for a result. Then a result comes in and it’s instantly a massive Chinese firedrill to schedule checkups ASAP, arrange medication changes, get insurance company approval, etc. Everything is stat. Followed by slogging along with the daily grind with no news for another few months. Then another firedrill. Suffice it to say that can be emotional torture if one’s not prepared for it. I’ve not been the guest of honor at a cancer treatment yet, but I’ve learned to embrace the idea that nobody gets out of this life alive, not even me. Trying to chew that cud a little every day helps keep the rest in perspective. Make the days count for something; whatever that may mean for you. Good luck in all this. You’re not alone. ---

I just checked. Well, I’m fast approaching the anniversary of my initial diagnosis. I had the title of the thread changed because the original was just a wee bit melodramatic about it not looking too good. If this had all taken place 25 or so years ago I might well have been dead by now, so that’s kind of cool. I’m trying hard to follow my oncologist’s advice, “Live your life as if you didn’t have cancer.” All except for the chemo part; I think I’ll still be doing that. The chemo is once a month and is an oral administration: Nausea, with just a teeny bit of barfing, and nothing that’s unbearable. That’ll continue up to my anniversary of the end of radiation treatment, somewhere around the Fourth of July. (Time flees). I had an MRI performed on Tuesday last so there’s a topic of conversation for my doc and I in a couple of weeks. The hardest part of the whole rigamarole is the uncertainty, but there’s no real way to address that short of a crystal ball. I want to thank everyone for the words of encouragement and support; it was very nice to read and more of the same goes out to the others on the board who are dealing with the Big C: Good on ya all guys. ---

Glad to hear you are doing well. By the way, I’ve learned from recent experience that the _best_ anti-nausea drug, especially after chemo treatments, is medical marijuana. Check you local laws. (Ginger ale works ok, too.)
