A Mars bar, to be precise. “Milky Way”, I believe, to the Americans. I can feel my arteries clogging. It was wonderful and disgusting at the same time. I understand that it’s a Scottish inventon, and that they deep-fry many odd foods in Britain. Does anyone know any other strange deep fried food? I’ve been told that there’s a place in Chinatown where they do deep fried milk, but I haven’t tried it yet… I’m too scared…😃 ---

deep fried milk is good! i ts my understanding that most adult asians are lactose-intolerant, and cooking it aids digestion. so they make a cooked custard out of milk and cornstarch, add delicious bits like dried shrimp and chinese sausage, batter it, fry it, and throw it in a wok with some scallions and garlic. yes, thank you, please! ---

At a local steakhouse they had a dessert that was deep fried cheesecake. They stuff it in a large glass goblet and then top it off with whipped cream. I inquired as to the number of calories this dessert might contain, but got no answer. If it’s in the name of science I could attempt to eat one sometime, but not without a doctor in attendance. ---

my cookbooks and the restaurants in which ive eaten it call it ‘deep fried milk.’ if you want a phonetic chinese name for it, i could go look it up for you. ---

I think I’ve tried deep fried milk before, and it wasn’t too bad at all. Then you have your deep fried milk **balls** , which are a totally different matter altogether. (no jokes from the peanut gallery, please) I have tried deep fried banana at a Malaysian restaurant; just the other day, in fact. That was pretty good. ---

My parents own a deep fryer. My parents are weird. Anyway, we found out about the Mars Bars when we were in Scotland, and though we weren’t able to get our hands on any, we made some when we got home. It was kind of hard to keep them from melting, but we eventually figured out just how to roll them in the batter. I was expecting it to be disgusting, but it was pretty tasty. According to my mom, there’s a restaurant in New York that’s now deep frying Twinkies. Supposedly the cream filling melts, and then they cover them in vanilla sauce. She’s urging the rest of us to have the neighbors over for another deep frying party, and fry up some Twinkies. Incidentally, we call the deep frying parties “White Trash Cookouts.” ---

A Mars bar is chocolate, caramel, nougat, and almonds. The closest candy analogue is the Snickers bar (C, C, N, and peanuts). At any rate, we have all three over here and they’re good. ---

We had those at the Minnesota State Fair last year. Tastes like a big chocolate chip cookie. On a stick. Unfortunately for the deep fried candy bar booth, they were placed directly across the street from the Sweet Martha’s Chocolate Chip Cookie booth (which, by the way, is ENTIRELY too far away from the milk bar), and we dumped the deep fried candy bar for the cookies. ---

Milky ways and Mars Bars may have similar ingredients, but they taste very different. I haven’t had either in ages, so I can’t remember how, but they do. Now excuse me. I need to go scrub the mental image of a deep fried twinky from my brain. I’ve just eaten and the very thought of that made me feel physically ill… ---

I had one once at a steakhouse in Hamilton, ON. For the life of me, I can’t remember the name. My girlfriend (now wife) still recalls my conversation while I ate: GF: So what do you wanna do tomorrow? ME: Oh, my god. GF: What’s that? ME: Mrrfff. Mmm. Holy. Oh, man! GF: Everything okay? ME: mwra! Yeah. I had a heart attack and died. But I’m feeling much better now…and it was worth it. ---
