# I have gone over to the Dark Side :D

Here’s a true story:
In 1986, I was travelling alone in Europe. I was 18. In Barcelona, I found myself stranded with no place to stay and no Spanish money, having just crossed the French border. I made my way to the main train station where there were groups of travellers like me who were preparing to camp out on the grounds, waiting for the station to open in the morning. I was approached by a man who spoke heavily accented English, and he invited me to pass the time with a group of 6 or 7 people of various nationalities, many of whom spoke no English at all. One of the group had a guitar. I was asked if I played. I said yes. The guitar was handed to me, and I began to play the opening chords of **Wish You Were Here**. Everyone grew excited, and they all joined me in singing the song. There were smiles and tears. It was one of the most magical moments of my life.

Oh, yeah. P. S. The group of people with whom I shared that tender inter-cultural moment then spiked my drink, knocked me unconscious, and stole everything of value that I carried with me, with the exception of my passport and my watch. Hi-ho.

What a coincidence. I’ve always wanted to answer that. Yes, it is. When I signed up for the Dope, my daughters and I were listening to the songs over and over and our favorite was the song about pronouns in which Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla features prominently. Whew!

Well I got **Echoes** from the library today.I’ve only got through Shine On You Crazy Diamond,Time,Fletcher Memorial Hall and Comfortably Numb and already I’m descending into suicidal angst.Some of the instrumental bridge bits go on a bit too long,but once you get into it it draws you in.And having heard the Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb,it’s amazing how different the original is.The machine has got me.I can see myself pootling about at 4 in the morning,pacing the floor,listening to this,trying to make sense of it.
