Wanted to thank everyone for the helpful suggestions. The info was much appreciated.
If I may ask, what did you end up going with?
I went with an Alienware Aurora via an Amazon lightning deal.
I probably won’t buy another pc. I bought a cheap Win 10 laptop last year. I haven’t turned it on in months.
Nearly everything I need can be done on a tablet or phone.
I boot the laptop for changing mp3 tags or ripping a new cd.
Nice. I would check to see if it has one stick of RAM or two (big prebuilts tend to have just one). If it has just one, consider swapping your old memory instead (assuming it’s also DDR4) as the computer will run faster with dual-channel memory. Due to how the CPU accesses memory, even 2x4GB sticks will be an improvement over 1x8GB for example.
My Dell desktop has served me pretty well for the past 5 years, but I’m also starting to think about getting a new one.
My specs, for reference:
Dell XPS 8920
Intel(R) Core™ i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6BG
32 GB RAM
1TB SSD drive
Windows 10 - 64
By my calculations, I spent around $2000 in 2022 dollars between 2017 and now. Monitors and peripherals not included as I just buy a new monitor or mouse or whatever whenever I need a new one.
I’d consider myself a “casual gamer”. I have a few CPU (rather than GPU) intensive games I really like and occasionally get into a more graphically intensive game. But I don’t need the latest and greatest or need to run games at 140 fps.
The Alienware Aurora or OMEN looks like it would be about what I would be looking for
