Why the concern that anyone will “think you are crazy”? Not only is this unlikely, since there would be nothing crazy about it, but if they do, why do you care? Give the money back and explain what happened. This is not heroic or crazy, just common decency.

And if you had kept reading you would see that she already did give back the money.

At the very least, go back and apologize to the girl you accused of not giving you the money. She will remember giving it to you and can tell you what the consequences she faced for it was. Then you can act according to what she says.

All I am saying, and all I’ve ever said, is that it’s possible for the cashier to have pocketed the $10. You can’t dispute this fact.

The manager took $10 out of the register and handed it to psychobunny. If the cashier had also pocketed $10, the till would be $20 short, not $10 short.

As a weekend cashier at McDonald’s … #3 is the ONLY right thing to do, hands down. And no, they won’t think you’re crazy, the story will spread like wildfire and you’ll restore peoples’ faith in humanity a little.

That cashier almost definitely got written up for being $10 short and maybe even suspended. I can’t remember what the over/under amounts are but being X short will get you written up, another amount gets you auto suspended and another gets you fired on the spot.

Not sure about all McD’s but at mine, every cashier has a camera on them at all times, so kinda hard to steal, although I’m sure some people are stupid enough to try it.

Also just as an FYI … we’re told NEVER argue with a customer, so that poor kid was fucked the second he said he gave her a $20. A good manager would have counted the till immediately.

ETA: I’m glad you went back to the store and got things fixed. The world needs more people like you.
