I irrationally hate Bono and Lenny Kravitz because they wear sunglasses indoors

A lot of trends in the 80s were cringe worthy. The sunglasses were the least of it. Chill.

I kind of think the OP’s use of the word “irrationally” negates the need for explanations (or to berate him). Also - and I don’t want to speak for him - but I’m pretty sure “hate” is hyperbole here. At least for me it is; my mild distaste for Bono would be there with or without the shades.

Could someone explain the dislike for Bono in this thread for me. He makes decent music and has done tons of philanthropic work which has garnered him some fairly prestigious recognition. Is it just because he wears sunglasses inappropriately?

A few years ago, he made some political statements that ticked off the right-wingers.
More recently, he made some political statements that ticked off the left-wingers.

He thinks his music is so awesome he forced us all to get a copy of his album (for free, admittedly) that we couldn’t delete from iTunes! That alone would be enough to hate him. The sunglasses just confirm what we already know.

No, he’s kind of seen as a self-aggrandizing, hypocritical, arrogant, sanctimonious, tax-evading pompous ass by a lot of people. Not necessarily me (I don’t particularly care), but that’s the sense I get from a lot of people. Here’s a thread from another board that runs it down better than I could.

It’s a common sentiment, and it has nothing to do with wearing sunglasses indoors. (Although that is mentioned in that thread; none of the people I know who hate Bono bring that up as an issue.)

Bingo. Also, I haven’t enjoyed U2’s music in a long time (though that’s not a personal indictment of Bono).

“Their leather jackets, had chains that would jingle…”

Ok then! Thanks.
