I joined, and pledged support to Yes California today.

I’m sure there’ll be an honest accounting of how they spent the funds forthcoming any time now.

I wonder if any of the Calexit proponents who were talking about this like it was a done deal will be back to comment on the latest development? Dude made some serious bank from Russia for stirring up the ‘movement’, I’ll give him that.

I find it amazing that anyone was even bothering to pay attention to this “movement” any more. Last report I read said that they didn’t have anything like the number of signatures they needed, the effort was decidedly unorganized, and since California dissidents are divided up into factions, some wanting to elect pro-secessionist politicians instead, and some simply wanting the age-old goal of dividing California up, the chance of something unified proceeding was pretty small.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people get caught up in idealist dreams like this…

Or are they responsible for all the harm done to [insert group name here] that live in the state because they are subject to laws made partially by the evil racists in the other states. I’m sorry but this argument is lacking.

Assuming Californians are all advocates of thriving minority groups (a point I seriously doubt) wouldn’t it be better if they had no input from -ists in backward regions and created a liberal utopia? That way all the disenfranchised could just take a dirty carbon burning bus to the border of Cali, then hop on the High Speed Railway to paradise.

Bwahhahaha.

The founder of Yes California quit so he could…
wait for it
move to Russia.

Link.

Tee hee.

This is just funny on so many levels. I wonder what progressive values he thinks Putin has…

Slee

Well, it’s true that there are no partisan divisions in Russia since Putin has killed or imprisoned all of his opposition.

Marcus Ruiz Evans, the initiative’s official proponent, has written the CA secretary of state to request that the initiative be withdrawn.

Think morgenstern will ever come back to this thread?

Well, our President thinks Putin’s great…

But seriously, what’s so funny? Russia’s basically playing all the angles over here, sometimes to get a manipulable buffoon like Trump elected, and other times just to sow division and confusion. And it wouldn’t surprise me if this is just one more piece of that pattern.

I suspect the reason I find it funny and you don’t is that I don’t, like many posters on this board seem to do, believe that most Americans are stupid.

My personal belief is that something like 10 to 15% of any given population is stupid and/or nuts. Given the media situation we find ourselves in where we have 24x7 news that has to be filled, the nuts and idiots get way more press than they should simply because the various news channels/websites/radio stations need something to air all the time.

This, along with a large dose of recreational outrage, leads to stories like this.

Update: the California Secretary of State’s website reports that the ballot proposition was “officially” withdrawn as of 4/17.

Don’t worry. The UN is going to step in and fix everything, because California is still a colony!

I’m really glad I took a look at that article, because I remember all of the ranting (especially by Morgenstern) about how this was driven by the awfulness of Trump, and how the movement was motivated by Californians being too smart to be around the rest of Amercia who voted for Trump. If I hadn’t looked at the article, I wouldn’t have noticed the bombshell that one of the founders of “Yes California” had actually voted for Trump.

Yeah, I really don’t expect proponents to come back to this thread.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo…

I wonder if someone will step up and continue this noble effort?

You mistellend proponent (emphasis aded).

And you spurred the werd mistellend warngly*.

Slee

And Aded.

Sorry, I read that as colonic.

You were right.

JFC, that goddam autocorrect is driving me crazy! In what universe is that a “correction”?

But of course. Let Freedom ring.
