A friend had a merkin teacher who loved to enunciate. She would say things like, “Je sweee FAT - eeeeeee - GAY!” and wonder why the class cracked up. It’s a beautiful language and I wished I remembered more of it (I spoke it fluently as a child.) ---

**Sunspace** and I were talkin about this last night. I said the most of the French I remembered was swearing! I had this sweet little French lady in college but BOY! could she chew you up one side and down the other.😃 Funny thing the most of the ASL I remember is swearing as well… :o ---

**Chefguy** , wasn’t there some British TV show that had a family of would-be upwardly-mobiles named Bucket (pron. _bouquet_)? OTOH, my dad always said “murky buckets” for _merci beaucoup_ …as a joke. ---

I found the WGBH filmed series, _French in Action_, to be extremely helpful in understanding conversational French. The Princeton professor who hosts it uses the immersion theory of language teaching, and you can’t beat it for learning the proper pronunciation. I believe any largish library will carry the whole series. The story is kind of fun and the films of Paris are a joy. ---
