So this hoarder’s show has also lit a fire in me, I finally took on the task of shoveling out the kids’ rooms. All the tiny dollhouse/ lego/ playmobil/ arts/crafts/books/ bits and pieces have been re united and reorganized into bins. Most of it will go to Goodwill. I have about six bags of stuffed animals I would take to Goodwill but they throw all stuffies out, no matter if it’s BOyds Bears or vintage Snoopy. I’m in a quandry on what to do. I cannot put them in dump!
And because of that show, I blew my chance to pick up some nifty tiki masks at a garage sale. I wanted those masks for my outdoor patio area, but I was loathe to start a new stockpile of ancient crap. I hemmed and hawed, I wanted the whole load but I resisted their call. In the end I told myself I just avoided some obscure West African Tiki curse.
I’ve got a bag of mostly clothes I’ve been meaning to take to the local charity thrift store for the past year. Since I don’t drive, I’d have to do this by bus, which is just enough of a hassle that I keep putting it off. They also only accept donations Wednesday through Saturday from (I think) 3 til 6 which complicates things further.
And I really should go through my closets and pull more clothes that I hardly ever wear. I’m also thinking that with a bit more effort I could probably get rid of enough stuff that I could swap my large dresser and chest of drawers for something smaller, which would give me room in my bedroom for more bookcases.
The episode with the woman cleaning out her fridge got me to throw out some stuff from in there too, even stuff that wasn’t really too old.
I should mention that in the thread about throwing up from something you saw…I didn’t go that far but I definitely felt a little faint. The people helping her had to leave the house for fresh air but she didn’t seem fazed by what must have been a horrific smell.
I had the morning off to deal with my window replacements, so I had some time to work on the consignment thing - I took fully half my closet out and put it on crappy wire hangers (they can’t have my nice ones!) and got it ready to go. I was merciless, too - I didn’t let sentiment sway me, mostly, except for one or two things I bought in Hawaii and the skirt I wore on my first date with Himself. And that one got moved back and forth a few times before I decided to keep it. I haven’t even LOOKED at the drawers yet (but I’ll have to, as there is an enormous pile of clean laundry in the living room that the cats have claimed as a bed, and there’s nowhere to put it!)
The past two weekends I’ve spent fixing up and maintaining stuff I own. I’m about ready to junk a ton of stuff because it’s really true that the more you own the more it owns you.
