I just finished the Dark Tower series! Discuss it with me! Spoilers!!

To bring this thread back on track very slowly, I seem to remember that in the season 4 Lost finale there being some DT reference, I believe to the Beam. I can vividly remember catching it a feeling very excited. Can anyone remember what this reference might have been?

This is right after it was finished, so the left side is a little darker because it hasn’t had a chance to heal yet…

I’m another long-time reader (I think I started when it was just the first 2 books out). I waited and looked forward to the new ones pretty eagerly. I didn’t have a problem with the end itself, but I did have a few issues that really let me down, to the point where I ended up giving up halfway through the last book and just reading a summary of the rest.

  1. As mentioned before, I hated the King insertion. It really didn’t work for me at all.

  2. It seems as if he took a major shift in tone, starting mainly with the 5th book, the first half of which I really liked. Growing up reading the books, I was really fascinated with the run-down world setting, the North Central Positronics references…I guess the post-apocalyptic mystery stuff. This angle seemed to get dropped completely. It really seemed like this would go somewhere and never did. Very disappointing. Also, more minor but also annoying to me, was the shift in language of all the characters after the 5th book. In Wolves, they adopted the dialect of the locals, with the thankee’s and all that. Throughout the rest of the book, that seemed to become the default for everyone, as if that had been the manner of speech all along. I’m not sure what to make of this, other than knowing it was a bit jarring and really annoyed me.

  3. The aforementioned dumping on the connections with other books. Lazy and a major letdown for the longtime fans who looked for all the little references. I can remember reading internet sites back in college that listed them and cross-referenced them…it was exciting and seemed to indicate that “no, DT fans, I haven’t forgotten you…it’s coming and it’s big, hang in there!”

Wow. Just… wow!

Ummm . . . weren’t his guns revolvers and not semi-automatics?

What’s the reference here?
