I just got back from a month in Europe (on the cheap because I have family in several countries I can stay with) and can I just say that Barcelona is one of the coolest cities. It’s been 12 years since I last visited my brother and his family there. Tapas bars! Gaudi! [La Rambla](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Rambla,_Barcelona)! Go Catalan independence! So nice to be home, except dammit they’re already talking about an early “polar freeze,” there are patches of snow and ice in my yard, and I am not thrilled about this. ---

I am glad you enjoyed your trip! Barcelona is a fantastic place, and the roughly 5 years that I spent there while I studied in the University were magnificent. There are so many places that are highly recommendable…! Of all the big cities in the world that I have seen or lived in, Barcelona always struck me as being the one with the most “soul”, so to speak. (As to Catalan Independence, I would say that in the end it would be rather more harmful than beneficial to Catalonia, but hey, if that is what they want…). ---

Not uncommon in these parts. ---

I spent a week in Barcelona, and it wasn’t nearly enough. What I enjoyed the most, aside from all the Gaudí places, was that music building downtown, with the inverted stained-glass dome and the muses on the stage. And the market off the Ramblas. Wish I were there right now.
