Today, I, along with 105 other people were told our that services will no longer be needed. “We are laying off by seniority”, they said. I missed the cut off by about a month. Just 6 weeks ago the head honcho, had a state of the company meeting, telling us that we had work contracted for at least 3 years. Hey, it sounded good. Somebody got lied to. Although the work was hot and physical, I enjoyed my time there. The thing I will miss most is my coworkers. I had only been there 16 months, but my department had become a family. I will miss them. When I went back to my work station, to gather my personal things, my workpartner, my brother, my best Bud, Andy was waiting there, looking at me in disbelief. I got my stuff, said some good-byes and then went to Andy and stuck out my hand, he shook it, but wouldn’t let go and said, “You’re not leaving this building”, his eyes welling up, mine starting to. I said “I can’t handle this man, I’ll talk to you later”, and left. Working at a job with people you get along with is great, having your work partner be your best friend is…well… fantastic. This is the first time in 16 years that I don’t have a job, so this is new to me, I will have another, but that uncertainty of a new work enviornment, has me a bit jittery. I feel sick. ---

How does the saying go? It’s a depression when a friend loses a job, but it’s a recession when you lose yours? Sorry to hear about it. Maybe this is what you need to start your chain of restaurants called Peckers. 😉 ---

Sounds like when my beloved WombatNet closed in August. My coworkers there (heh, all 7 of them) were my family, since I was 3,000 miles away from home. Sucks knowing I’ll never find a job as great as that again. Good luck to you. Bigger and better things, man. ---

heh, at my company they laid off all the interns…so, when the work does start to come through (even though we, too had a forecasted 3 year work load)there won’t be anyone to do it. That was a really bright move: get rid of the cheap employees that know how to use the computer. keep the higher paid employees that use their computer as an expensive paper weight. Granted I was going to leave any way, as I want to be a full time mom…but I hate to leave under such sad conditions. I will also miss my fellow employees.☹ ---

Hey, buddy, I feel for ya. For what it’s worth…when I got laid off I found this program called HIRED which is covering all of my tuition and books AND you’re still allowed to collect unemployment while attending school. If you’ve thought about any more training, it might be worth looking into. In the meantime…screw it. Kick back, relax, and watch some lousy daytime TV. Something just as good, if not better, will come along. And…have a great holiday season anyway just for spite. Good luck, pal. ---

Got laid off three weeks ago. Not a bad severence package, a weeks pay per year with the Co (4), 2 weeks pay in lieu, Services with a transition co. and they even pushed my official last day back two days so that a large block of my stock options would vest and I could exsize them. Still is first time I’ve been without a job in almost ten years. So is wierd. ---

At least (so far) we didn’t both lose our jobs at the same time. **imthjckaz** will really miss his friends at work, and I hope he will stay in touch with them. I am in touch with only a couple of the people I used to work with at Vision-Ease ( **imthjckaz** is one of them). We will be fine, but this was really unexpected. He hadn’t been feeling well all week anyway, and now this. ---

Best wishes to you. I’m sorry that this happened to you, especially during this time of year. My heart really goes out to all the people losing their jobs/careers. Someday I’m sure that I’ll be among those as I doubt that many people will retire from the company I work with. They say now that 5 years is about the average for a job with one company. I guess my company is looking at it that way too, now. Tough on us old-timers that thought we’d be here until retirement. Keep your chin up. I’m a firm believer that when one door closes another door opens. ---
