I Just Heard The Worst Cover Version...

So that’s why Stewie did that bizarre version on Family Guy. I’d never seen the Shatner bit before before; I was mystified when I saw the FG episode.

Er…those are the lyrics. Awful, but not Fergie’s fault.

David Bowie and Bing Crosby singing The Little Drummer Boy. Together.

I don’t know if it qualifies for this list, but since I saw it long ago, I have never been the same.

I felt as though, oh, I don’t know . . . the universe as I knew it had been destroyed and some other put in its place?

I think the consensus is (based on what I’ve read in past threads) that it’s supposed to be “But if this ever changing world in which we’re living…” which is so much more gramatically correct. I’ll blame Fergie!

Thank you, I came in to post that nightmare.

And also bitch about people posting links to youtube with no description but “this” which annoys the crap out of me because I have a sucky dial-up connection but I will have to at least click the link to get the name of the song and artist if I want to know what anyone is talking about but I am certainly not going to wait an hour for it to load completely because I’ve already been waiting half an hour for a song I want to hear to load and then everyone starts making posts like that and the whole thread ends up a waste for me because I don’t have the patience to even check all those darn links for the song/artist name which could have been posted in the post! hyperventilates :frowning:

Wile E
Agreed.
Also, don’t you hate those postings with zero explanations such as:

You might be thinking of Sufjan Stevens’ cover of it. Which sucked dick, in my opinion.

No! Read some more past threads then.

Man has this been up many times. I think I have read about it more than the damn planes.

Shinedown absolutely murders “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Holy hell, why did they decide to change the tempo?! I find it sort of ironic that I hate their cover so much given I first heard the song as a cover by a band called Witches Creek. They never released a cd (college band) that I know of, but I wish they had. They did the song justice.

For what it’s worth, I agree with you that the cover completely altered the mood and timbre of the song, and that the original had more emotion to it. Still, I suspect your opinion will be in the minority…much like my opinion about Gary Jules taking “Mad World”, which was intended as a song about the observations of a man rendered soulless and apathetic by the arbitrary drudgery of the world, and turned it into what sounds like some emo high school douchebag whining about how much his life sucks (which is kind of appropriate considering it was made for “Donnie Darko”, but that doesn’t mean it’s any good outside of that context). It’s supposed to sound emotionless, people; that’s the whole point!

But I digress.

As far as covers that are just out-and-out bad, I nominate Counting Crows’ cover of the Psychedelic Furs’ “The Ghost In You”. They decided to remove all the, well, music, and replace it with a slowly, boringly plinked acoustic guitar, on top of which Adam Duritz breathily wheezes out the lyrics to the song in what could only generously be described as a melody of sorts. I fail to see why the producers of “Clueless” needed to pay a big name to do this; were the guys from LOUNE’s link unavailable?

Roland Orbazal, shouldn’t you declare a prior interest in this subject…

I agree re. Counting Crows. Same applies to their woeful version of Joni’s Big Yellow Taxi. Leave Joni’s songs to Joni, people! She’s a genius and you are not.

I was watching The Little Mermaid on DVD last week. One of my favorite movies and I love the musical numbers. Anyway, the bonus disc has “**Kiss the Girl ** music video” listed and I thought hey, cool, I love that song.

Uh, it’s some really vampy screechy teen(?) girl butchering the song. The vocals are bad enough but the camera mugging makes it all the worse.

Or Otis Redding.

I couldn’t agree less.
