Scottish summers are great if you don’t mind taking an emergency sweater with you, and the long days are fantastic. Wait till December though, grey, damp, and it gets dark before 4pm. ---

Having moved only from southern California to northwestern Oregon, a matter of ten degrees latitude, we still marvel at thhe long summer days here. I can’t fathom what it must be like in Scotland. What’s strange about this is that when I did a university year in Germany, I don’t remember consciously noticing the difference at all! ---

I was in Scotland in August and it didn’t get dark in Inverness until about 10pm IIRC I wonder what it is June 22? I’m seeing 10:22pm for sunset and 11:31 for end of Twilight. Mid-August is 9:01pm and 9:47pm respectively. But nautical Twilight 10:47pm and we were at the beach at 10pm. So it makes sense. ---

Last night I walked home after a night out. I left at 10 pm and walked 2 miles home. It was still light out and I felt safe the whole time. No place is completely safe, but this is generally a very safe city. ---

The elephant in the room is that while the landscape of Scotland can be lovely in the summer months, it is plagued by that most ravenous of mosquitos, the Scottish midge. ---
