Yeah, I didn’t think it was as good as the first two. There was just too much to keep straight - too many villains, too many subplots, too many celebrities, too fast-paced. And what the hell happened to Heather Graham? They didn’t even bother to explain her away as a fembot. OTOH, Foxxy Cleopatra is my new hero. “You’re under arrest, sugar.” :)È ---

_Goldmember was quite funny_. It is just a bunch of sketches stiched together, but the same could be said of the other two. Did anyone else just love Nigel Powers? I can’t remember the actor’s name, but he was great. I loved the Mini as his spy car. My favorite bits: Austin’s performance with Ming Tea following his knighting The flashback to Austin and Dr. Evil (then Master Evil, prior to his four years at evil medical school) as roommates at school. Danny DeVito as Mini-Me in _Austinpussy_ The mole with the mole. Mole mole mole. Austin’s fight with Mini-Me in the hotel room. ---

Now that there’s a spoiler warning, I’ll ask this on the off chance someone else noticed this and maybe has an answer for me. In the flashback scene told by Nigel Powers, a young Michael Caine appears, looking distressed after the car blows up. Now this whole scene was a bit oddly shot, making me believe that perhaps they were matching a look so as to be able to use an actual clip of Michael Caine from a movie he’s shot previously. (Obviously, the other “young” versions of characters were different actors.) The shot of a younger Michael Caine did not look like a special effects shot to me. So does anyone know if it came from a different movie, and if so, what movie? ---

Another question now that we can have **spoilers** : At the end, they finally deliver on the joke you’ve seen coming a mile away – the key to the “tractor beam” is golden and looks like a, well, you know, Johnson. And Goldmember, of course, happens to have the spare key. So they show him unscrewing it, and unlocking the “tractor beam” with it, and much action ensues now that they’ve finally remembered that a movie is supposed to have a plot. But then later, when we see Goldmember operating the “tractor beam,” it’s pretty evident that he’s still attached to the key. So I’m thinking they edited out a scene of him inserting the key into the whole with it, you know, still connected. My question (finally) is this: would that scene have given the movie an R rating? That’s the only reason I could think of that it would’ve been cut. But there are other things still in the movie that I would’ve considered just as bad, if not worse (showing him (implied) peeing into another guy’s mouth, fer instance). Or did I just see that whole last scene wrong? I thought the only reason Goldmember fell once the controls for the “tractor beam” fell down, was that he was still attached. ---

I came in late, because there was a huge line, and only one person selling tickets (yet 3 people working the concession stand _grumble grumble_). So, can anyone tell me what I missed? I heard the opening sequence was hilarious and had lots of cameos. I came in right when Britney Spears was revealed to be a fembot. The whole audience was cheering when her head blew up. I consider it to be the best part of the movie. Yes, I realize there’s a spoiler warning in the thread title. ---

I like the fact that they made no mention of what happened to Felicity Shagwell. I would’ve preferred that they did the same with Elizabeth Hurley’s character in the second movie. Since these are parodies of Bond type movies they should avoid any reference to past Powers Girls (like Bond Girls). James Bond always seemed to hook up with the Bond chick by the end of the movie and there’s no mentioning of her in the next movie where there’s another Bond Girl. I went to see the movie expecting it to suck majorly. Everyone told me it was awful but I wanted to see it just because it was an Austin Powers movie. Perhaps it was because my expectations were so low, but I thought it was great and even better than the second one. ---

I think the beginning and end were great–I loved the celebrity cameos. But the middle was pretty blah. I’ll second that the Dr. Evil rap video was awesome, though. It left me feeling like MIB2, did though–kinda empty. I laughed at both movies, but they felt more like TV specials than movies–not epic enough. Now, I don’t mean epic in the Kurasawa sense, but I mean, The Simpsons make me laugh too, and not for $8. Put it this way–I’ve seen almost 10 movies since May, and the only one that I can’t wait to buy on DVD is Spider-Man. ---

I apologize for disappointing anyone, but when I got to this thread, it already said "I just saw Austin Powers in Goldmember! ‘Spoilers, baby!’’. That led me to believe that the cat was already out of the bag. I enjoyed this movie, but I felt that the first one had more of a plot, thus more enjoyable to me. ---

Eh, somehow it didn’t really have the punch that AP2 had. The second one had a whole lot of pop culture references (Moon Unit Zappa, The Allen Parsons Project) and a bunch of inside jokes. The subtitles thing was kind of funny, but could have been better. And Beyonce? Stay the hell away from the camera. You suck. Myers said something like “If I wanted a bad singer who couldn’t act, I would have gotten Mariah Carey”. They had to shoot in excess of 70 takes with her in some scenes. Seth Green, although funny, cannot hold up the movie as the main villain next time. It should still be the good doctor! ---

You got a citation for that? Considering that the movie has enough product placement to pay for a small country, and that the movie’s only been out a little under a week and the entire cast has been doing press tours like crazy, I’m skeptical. I doubt even somebody with Myers’ enormous ego would be ragging on his co-star when he’s still promoting a movie with so much riding on it. And if he _did_ say it, what a tool. Hers was the best performance in the movie; she definitely pulled off her character a lot better than Myers did with Goldmember. Considering how _awful_ Heather Graham was in the second movie, and how Elizabeth Hurley and Kristen Johnston were barely given a chance to do anything except stand back and watch Myers do his bits, they should consider themselves lucky they managed to find an actress who is a) hot and 2) able to hold her own in a lead role in a nonsensical comedy movie. ---
