Saw this at a preview screening at UCLA. Harry Shearer (Derek) spoke afterwards. It attracted a big crowd that knew it was supposed to be a comedy and laughed all the way through. My favorite bit from Shearer’s Q & A: The biggest challenge in the songwriting was being able to “convey the impression of interminable length in less than a minute” ---

I love Nigel’s solo where he uses an entire violin to play his guitar, instead of just the bow (ala Jimmy Page). Pure genius. ---

But then Mckean comes around the corner and just falls over laughing. IIRC, he even falls out of character and tries to say something in his normal voice. They never told him what was going on, just sent him into the room for his reaction.
