> I have seen the worst person in the world. I took my mom to the library tonight. She uses a wheelchair, so I went to park in a handicapped space, and there was a car parked diagonally over two handicapped spaces. To make it worse, I’m pretty sure they didn’t have a handicapped plate or hangtags. I probably should have reported it, but I didn’t know if I should tell the library people or call the police, and I thought the car would be gone before the police would get there. So I left a note under the windshield wiper and went home. It would have been sweet to see them get a big ticket, but sometimes justice is slow and fickle.

Surely there was a camera phone nearby? A photo of this car including a clear representation of the licence plate should have been available on Reddit shortly after your experience.

> That does sound like a bit more than bad driving skills. If she was driving impaired, I hope she got a ticket. Was there any way that someone could have parked beside her and blocked her in? That’s a fun thing to do with bad parkers.

Actually, all of the HC spaces at this particular store are designed to be very convenient for the folks who need them: only one per line of spaces, closest to the doors and with extra space so that carts can safely be abandoned if one is unable to return to the corral. Which means that there’s also no practical way for one person to block someone in a space if you’re so inclined - there’s no barrier anywhere around the spaces, and it would literally require four cars with like-minded drivers to block someone in.

The actual worst person I ever met, though, was a cousin of my uncle’s (other side of the family,) and the father of one of my then-teenaged school mates. He killed his wife and then himself, on Christmas Eve, in front of their three sons (all teens/early twenties.) Selfish old bastard. (But I never saw him hog the handicapped spots!)

Oh, that’s a _good_ idea! I don’t do Reddit so I didn’t think about that, but that could have been interesting.

It’s perfectly fine to do that, don’t feel silly. It just means that all dispatch goes through 911.

I put my hand up in a WTF gesture and then waived her ahead into the spot while I drove to another one.

I had the same thing happen where someone put on their turn signal as I was waiting for a spot and pulled in. At least they had the courtesy of pulling through to the open spot on the other side. I actually thanked him for it - he said he thought I might want it.

Does that make him the Best Person in the World?

I’ve met hundreds of convicted killers. Some were jerks, some seemed nice enough.

The biggest assholes were generally the repeat drunk drivers, though. Such a sense of entitlement! One guy blamed the teen he ran into for not being an experienced enough driver to avoid him when he swerved into the kid.

I was very, very pregnant with the Celtling. Early in the pregnancy I had injured my spine, and by this point I was dragging my right leg behind me, so got around on a walker.

Getting out of the house was incredibly difficult and painful, and I only went out for Doctor’s appointments. After a check-in at the OB’s office, I was just really desperate for something sweet, and so stopped into a coffee shop for a coffee/milkshake treat.

On the way out I was kind of struggling with my cup and the walker, when a young man (presumably the same WPITW the rest of you have spotted) dropped the heavy door just as I was going through. The door hit my arm, then the front leg of the walker. Down went the cup, and I hit one knee, right in the puddle of icy coffee. WPITW turned back around, saw what he’d done, and broke into a lopsided smirk. Elbowing his sidekick he said “Look! Fat chick is pregnant!” then giggled and walked to his car.

Fortunately, an elderly lady helped me up, patted me on the shoulder, and gave me a few words of encouragement. I never did get my treat though.

Gods, that’s horrible! I think there’s [a movie about him](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144084/?ref_=nv_sr_1). I have to wonder about people like this. Are they just extremely immature and self-centered or is it something closer to being a psychopath?

If I’m ever in the DC area or if you’re ever in North Carolina, I will personally buy you that coffee treat. The people at the coffee shop should have replaced it for free, but maybe they didn’t see what happened.

When I was 19, I bought a 1976 Trans Am from a friend who had purchased the car and then fallen upon hard times. He was very grateful to me for taking it off his hands. It was a classic Thunder Chicken model, exactly like the one(s) they used in the Smokey and the Bandit films. It was a hot car in its day with the hickey on the hood and all the fiddly decal work and such. Ostentatious, but it was the time for all that in my life.

I volunteered for a crisis intervention hotline at that time and our offices were lodged in a church. You had to park in a rather obscure spot in an alley to use the rooms they provided for our hotline. I was the only person parked in the area since it was a late-night shift. After my shift, I returned to my car – to discover that someone had Kung Fu’ed the driver’s side door. A big footprint outlined right in the middle of it. No reason, just because the car was there, I guess.

Expensive to repair.

Aren’t some people treasures?

I’d had the car for about 6 weeks.

That sucks. I’m not sure why some people have destructive urges. A pyschologist could probably explain it. I hope you got the car fixed and had a blast driving it for a long time!

I haven’t met any serial killers, but they probably wouldn’t tell me anyway. 😉 Drunk drivers really are the worst. They keep doing it over and over again, and most of them just get a slap on the wrist.

🙂 Thanks. Actually, that car had a curse on it… it got hit 7 times in 6 months and I was never cited for a single incident. It was so bad that the body shop told me to stop coming in until I was “done” getting it wrecked. I finally got it fixed and sold it tout suite. Never had an accident before or since!

Maybe it had a ghost or some kind of bad juju. You’d think the body shop would be glad for the steady business. They could have had enough money to buy a new boat if you had kept the car. 😛

I once parked across two disabled car parks as I was rushing to an emergency call from my mum at the library and although I came back after a few minutes to move the car some passive aggressive so and so had stuck a very rude letter under my window wiper, this upset my elderly sick mother who had hurt her hip at the library no end.

Parking lots are a common habitat of the worst people in the world, along with post office lines and shopping malls.

I need to go report myself in the “worst thing you ever did” thread. I encouraged a friend to steal the spot from another woman who was clearly waiting, and for the last space in a big lot. My friend is a sweetheart who worries about offending people so I am surprised she did it, but I was the instigator. :o

Calling the police was the right move.

Several months ago, I was at the grocery store and saw a car parked in the striped area next to, but not in, the handicapped area. It was also blocking the main throughway in the parking lot. I did call the police, and they showed up right as I was leaving.

😃

I didn’t stick around for the aftermath.
