I actually know of a case where that sort of thing just happened, but the management was exceedingly stupid. Guess these guys are vicious and not stupid, huh?

Yeah, we’re talking about a $6B corporation that has its own in-house lawyers and all that jazz. I tried to negotiate a parachute the last time I worked for them and they pretty much laughed at me. Six months later, I was looking for another job.

I envy you, Chefguy, being able to turn it down. It sounds like a wise decision for you as well as a little payback of sorts. Party on!

There has to be an equilibrium. The job has to pay enough for you to live comfortably or better, but also has to give you enough free time to spend and enjoy it.
