# I just used a neti pot for the first time

**Qadgop** says in the other thread that sea salt is too strong, and he recommends kosher salt.

It’s taking awhile, but I think the neti pot is beginning to have an effect. A lot of the water is still pouring into my throat, but less than when I started. And more exciting stuff is coming out my nose.

I don’t recommend sea salt because you’re never sure just what you’re getting in it; it varies based on the location the salt is mined from. One place may have hig magnesium sea salt, another some with more chromium, etc etc

I like kosher salt because that’s basically what it is, NaCl. Other varieties of plain old NaCl are okay by me too.

I do like to add bicarb to my formulation, as it works as a buffer, preventing excess acidity from irritating nasal tissues.
