I just watched A Scanner Darkly. I'm now pissed off

I thought the movie was excellent, and captured the feel of the novel very well.

I bought the movie a while back when it was in the discount bin, I got so frustrated with it that I stopped watching it about an hour in

It was visually compelling and unique, but the plot, such as it was, was horribly disjointed and almost random, I’m sure it’s a film that would play better and make more sense if the viewer was under the influence of certain chemical compounds, it doesn’t hold up to sober viewing

and I only watch films sober, so ASD does nothing for me

Another one here who didn’t like it being in Rotoscope and had to make several attempts before I could watch it all the way through.
Read the book years ago and enjoyed it and ultimately enjoyed the film.

IMO if you haven’t had some sort of experience of the lifestyle that they were living it could very probably make the film hard work to watch/enjoy.

That’s exactly what I came in to say. How did you know that? Have you been reading my mind? 'Cause if you had been that’s what I would have done. Not that I have, you know, nobody can read minds, why are you looking at me like that?

Heh, nothing like living in a house with a couple of really intense paranoids.

It depressed the hell out of me but I really liked the film. I was expecting rubbish.

My girlfriend and I started howling at: “Kidney shot! Kidney shot! Kidney shot!”

Woddy Harrelson and Downey Jr. must’ve had a blast in those roles.
