How the hell did I miss this? I love cheesy '80s action movies, but for whatever reason, I just never got around to seeing this until tonight. Classic example of a movie that’s so bad it’s good. Anyway, my wife checked the DVD out from the library the other day, and I figured, what the hell, I’ll give it a shot. I loved how it started out making you think this was going to be a run-of-the-mill tale of a good ol’ boy taming a wild place and falling in love, and then ends up turning into a classic martial arts revenge flick. Also loved Ben Gazzarra as the fiendishly over-the-top villain who uses (among other things) a monster truck to dispense his wrath. ---

Yeah, I didn’t hate it. Bad acting, but mostly IMO, bad writing. Even good actors would have had trouble delivering those lines… But it was fun enough for what it was, even if predictable. ---

Patrick Swayze, more Patrick Swayze, an additional dose of Patrick Swayze’s back… who, me, a Patrick Swayze crush? No, never! It always leaves me with the impression that the people making it enjoyed themselves, which is always a good one. And I loved the soundtrack too. ---

What I love about the movie is that there’s world out there that we non-bar-circuit types just don’t know about. A world where a bouncer is know throughout the land, and only by his first name. And he’s only about as widely-known this other bouncer. “Oh my god, that guy at the end of the bar, that’s Dalton!” “Gentlemen … Wade Garrett” _– ooh gasp wonder gee –_ Like there are bouncer/cooler trading card sets that we’re just not hip to. ---

There’s one shot of naked Patrick from the back that always makes a girlfriend of mine gasp out loud. The thing I remember most about that movie is the fabulous place that Patrick lived-- that big barn-like place with the great deck. ---
