I keep hearing "I really though Harris would win" Why do you think, you were led to believe this?

Thanks.

That really went nowhere in terms of refuting what I said, but … y’know … thanks.

ETA:

Here’s the GOP Fear and Faith platform in a nut shell. These are the lies the right spreads about the left. None of this has any relationship to Democratic policy proposals or planks in the party platform:

*They’re turning this country socialist, like Venezuela
*They’re giving this country over to illegals and brown people
*They’re going to ban your guns and your religion
*They’re teaching your children to be ashamed of their race, their heterosexuality, and their ethnicity
*They’re turning your cities into war-torn cesspools
*Your children are utterly not safe in Librul 'Murica
*You won’t be able to buy a 17 ounce fountain drink
*We’ll all be forced to eat nothing but kale. An In-n-Out Double Double burger will be a Felony
*They’re using Agenda 21 to force us all to live in cramped barracks and drive Smart cars
*Bill Gates is going to inject a chip into you, after which, Big Brother will own you
*You’ll pay 105% of your income in taxes
*You’ll have to marry interracial, have LGBTQ kids, and get an abortion. You’ll just have to
*They want us to bend down at the waist for Putin and Xi
*We’ll all be buying Teslas for non-English speaking Welfare recipients
*Biden Crime Family
*They’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets … of the people that live there;
*FOR THE LOVE OF GRID … BENGHAZI !!!

And I really could go on and on.

They’re evil, but they’re generally not stupid.

If Democrats need to reach people who are vulnerable to this kind of marketing effort, I really don’t know how they could. Whatever other qualities that cohort has, it will be hard to bypass these lizard-brain, existential issues to talk intelligently to them about the reality of “their economic interests.”

I’m not trying to win the internet. I’m just making what should be an obvious point.

So what do we do about it ?

I engage in thoughtful, substantive, and fact-based discussions.

You?

I mean, we can cry about it and whine about it. We can resent it and regret it but we damn sure can’t forget it because we have at least 4 more years of it. So what changes can we make to prevent it being more long term.

Tell the Democrats to start running as a bunch of loud-mouthed, “Yeah-HAW! RACISMSSSS!”, Stupider than Iodiocracy stereotypes of the worst of Americans, and then actually govern in a sensible manner, all the while blaming those Commie Republicans using the deep state to thwart their efforts to make Americans use YEEEEEEE-haw! in every sentence while forcing women to give birth.

Yeah. I don’t think that will work but you can give it a shot.

Your discussions on a message board didn’t make much difference in the real world did it ?

Going to have to be more than that to turn it around.

[Hoping to be helpful, not snarky]

There are a number of threads that seem to be discussing the Democrats’ way forward, and/or doing an autopsy on the election loss. Take a look at the thread titles on the Politics & Elections home page here:

That really wasn’t ever my goal.

Worked great for the Republicans (except for that govern responsibly part), but hey, nothing else has worked for the Democrats.

The fundamental problem is, how do you reach voters who seem to prefer the lies? You have to lie better, it seems. The actual truth clearly isn’t working.

I’m honestly open to serious suggestions about this, BTW, but just whining about how we’re not appealing to the electorate isn’t enough. This is a serious problem that needs a solution, and I haven’t heard, or come up with, anything.

Yes, we all realize that. So clearly, we have no idea how to fix it. How about you, in your infinite wisdom, try making a few suggestions?

I think the thing is, we’re all agreed as to the extent of the problem. Trump winning election yet again, and indeed, now having control of all houses of government and basically the judiciary is an utterly disastrous scenario for pretty much everyone.
The disagreement is with your diagnosis:

Voters aren’t tired of the actual “democratic agenda”; they are fearful of all the made up bullshit that conservatives have claimed that the left really wants.
Changing that isn’t something the democrats have the power to do.

I think the most fundamental problem is that too many families are having a hard time even making ends meet every month all while paying taxes so that the politicians can throw money at millions coming here, and helping to fund 2 wars

I think the average guy is kind of put off and pissed off having a difficult time while politicians tell him how great the economy is and how good we have it.

At the request of @Sigene, and as it has moved off-topic, thread closed.
