We recently went through a very busy period at work where we all ran our asses off in order to get 'er done. As thanks, another department (that benefitted from our ass-running) sent us a thank-you card along with a gigantic bag-O-candy that contained stuff like [this](http://gettinitpegged.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/hard-candy.jpg). Upon seeing it, I made a dismissive comment like, ‘gee, thanks for the candy Grandma’, and promptly received the stinkeye from some peers. This bag weighs ten pounds if it weighs an ounce; I predict it will still be around come next leap year unless someone shit-cans it before then. I am not denying my rudeness. But I gotta wonder…why not buy something people actually…you know…_like_? Are you with me or agin me? mmm ---

You are _mean_, **Mean Mr. Mustard**! I wholeheartedly agree that hard candy is just about the least appetizing “treat” I can think of, but still! You never, _ever_ say anything bad about a gift. Never! Think it, fine, but _never_ say it! And why didn’t they buy chocolates or taffy or whatever? Well, maybe they wanted to get the most candy they could for their money, so they could show the enormity of their appreciation. Maybe they’ve never tasted it, and just thought the bright colors were appealing. Maybe they wanted to make sure it was low-fat, or low-calorie, or kosher. Or maybe that’s their favorite candy, and the whole department eats tons of it, and thought you guys would love it to bits. There! Do you feel sufficiently guilty now? ---

I have to wonder if the folks who sent the candies are the types that bring a generic bag of cookies or an off-brand bottle of soda to a big office pot-luck. You know the type I mean… However, I agree that particular candy is unappealing but I’d have only said so to a like-minded individual and only in private, 'cause I’m classy that way. 😉 ---

You guys would best just say thank-you and then throw the bag away. If I’m going to be eating empty calories of refined sugar that’s just going to make me fat I’m not going to waste it on grandma’s hard candy. ---

OMG, it’s Grandma candy! That’s exactly what it is. I haven’t seen candy like that in years. I’d have a piece, just for the nostalgia value. ETA: I don’t see any ribbon candy in the picture. Perfectly good line. I assume the delivery was bad. It has to be done as an obvious joke. Also, comedy doesn’t come from single lines, the warm up is crucial. I assume you didn’t spend years making remarks along a similar vein to train your audience to laugh at the right time. Don’t fret though, most would-be comics die on amateur night. ---

Sorry, but I’m laughing with you on the “grandma candy” … makes me think of leftover Christmas supplies. But I won’t agree with you on the candy lasting until next leap year … anything edible in a work situation seems to disappear rapidly … stale or not. ---

Guess that department never heard of Harry and David’s ! Seems their hearts were in the right place, though. Some of our other departments would have complained and found fault with our work. I’ll take a big bag o’ candy over that anyday! ---

Whoa, that is definitely “Grandma candy!” IIRC, it always had weird flavors that didn’t quite match up with what you thought you might get by looking at the color. ---
