# I know I live in the mountains, but this is ridiculous...

Have the windows open and the a/c on. Soon enough it will be summer and we will be without fresh air until September.

5 degress fahrenheit at the moment here. Pretty cold for April. But I think we will have bright sunny Colorado days for about a week. Predicting 50 degrees. I bet Denver sees 70-75.

Here is the [snowblower](http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk300/mtgrrl/snowblower08-008.jpg) in our driveway last month. Sorry for the tiny photo size.
This morning off our [deck](http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk300/mtgrrl/sheep_mt.jpg) . It’s about 4 degrees here, but should warm up quickly.
Mr Alpine went snowmobiling yesterday, and there was a solid four feet of fresh up high, and we probably got another foot after that. Certainly the biggest storm of the season. Ok, I’ll stop talking about it now!

Park county steams our lower drive culvert a couple of times a year. No questions asked.

That vehicle actually belongs to the local gravel co, which does our plowing. At this time of year, they’re on will call, so we’ve had to call them every day to come plow. The county stops plowing about 200 yards before our driveway, dang them!

Yep I tried for username Alpine when I signed up. Since it was taken, I did the switcharoo. Funny thing is that both Alpine and I have pretty much the exact same somewhat obscure job.

The pretty stuff starts across the highway, which is far enough away from the cabin that indoors I don’t hear a damn thing from it. Unfortunately, once all the snow finally goes away, the stretch inbetween me and the road isn’t so nice. But it’s a very convienient location as far as getting pretty much anywhere I need to go (and yes, a two-lane highway is the main, and only, road between towns up here, it’s 80 miles to the nearest freeway!). And I don’t have to share it with anybody. Finding a place I could afford by myself up here was a major accomplishment!

OK, a skiing question or two for you Colorado folks.
You have plenty of snow, but the resorts have all closed, you say. Here in California, we haven’t had much snowfall in the Sierras for a month or so now, yet most of the resorts are still running strong. At least, they were this weekend…this may be the last for the season, though. So, is it just a case of the seasonal workers moving on to ‘Spring jobs’, or am I missing something?
Alsom, we’re thinking about a trip to Aspen over Thanksgiving to visit family, and are hoping we can get some skiing in while we’re there. Is it likely that the season will be underway by then?

Thanksgiving in Aspen shouldn’t be a problem. But you never really know how good the snow will be. This has been a big year for us. But the real snow started in December
A Basin is still open for sure.
I think it’s a matter of planning. Re:closing down. Loveland and A-Basin are usually in a contest to see who can open earliest, and close latest.
So they manage to do it.

At least for Telluride, they have a Forest Service permit to operate within a certain time frame. I know they’ve extended it in the past, but I think they have to get permission. And by then all the lifties are in Mexico.
