Oddly, Brian Peppers came up recently on LJ. There is some kind of hydrocephalicus-like syndrome that produces a deformity of this kind. ---

I’ll admit it, I’m squeamish. Would someone care to _describe_ the problem with Brian Pepper’s appearance? Very pasty, unshaven oversized mishapen head, with eyes that buldge. By comparrison, his school yearbook photo looks fairly normal. But the image in question makes Roy Whiting look like father christmas. ---

The details in the skin folds suggest not only skill in photoshop, but also a keen eye for how fat women really look, not how people think they look. ---

Hmmm… not all that useful to draw a parallel between a creepy newspaper photo and murderous paedophilic behaviour - even if in this case they do happen to coincide in the same individual - for one thing, the newspapers are highly adept at picking the image frame (often from a video source, so they can really milk it) that portrays the subject in a very poor light - if you want them to look stupid, use a frame where they’re mid-blink - that sort of thing - I suspect we’d probably suffer similarly if they had a reason to portray us that way. But also (not that there are children necessarily reading this thread) - why perpetuate the not-particularly-useful stereotype that _strange-looking people are dangerous_? - instil this in your kids and all a potential abductor has to do to win their trust is look nice, trustworthy and respectable. ---
