Your approach sounds more thoughtful than most. Your point about the hourly wage is a good one. Using your numbers and assuming there are an average of 10 people per hour in the server’s section, that’s something like **$900** in tips for a six-hour shift if you leave a 20% tip. Not bad!

No one has yet even tried to address the reason for the inexorable increase in tip percentages.
