# I lit a candle underwater!

I have this scented candle in a wide candle holder…essentially a thick drinking glass/tumbler…which had almost completely burned down, and I wanted to clean out the dregs before I put a fresh one in. Instead of chipping out the wax with a knife, I placed the holder in a bowl of water and placed that in the microwave; the idea is the wax would melt and float to the top of the water, leaving a clean glass behind.

A few seconds after, the burned-out wick began to bubble, and the bubble-enclosed wick shone brightly.

FIRE…UNDER…WATER! :eek: 😃

Maybe you would get more replies if you could do something REALLY incredible, like[thread a needle, underwater](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=269523#post5130099).

But really, sometimes you have to be happy with what you have, such as only a few posts, or the ability to light fires, underwater. 🙂

I stumbled across this old Wonder Woman comic a couple of days ago (It’s from 1957, and the drawings are appallingly bad – _I_ could do better) and had to show that panel to Pepper Mill.

The microwave thing is really cool, though. I’ll have to try it.

Maybe this could be **Enola’s** useless Super Power.
