I flew into Raleigh last night for her visitation this morning. My family wanted their last memory of her not to be full of tubes and wires, so my sister contacted Mother’s minister, who had arraigned with a funeral home to get her niced up so we could see her. We spent an hour with her, and reminisced things. One guy who shall remain nameless (but his name starts with an M and ends with an S and rhymes with “house”), kept cracking wise. We then went to lunch at an Italian place. The server was one of my sister’s old students. That was fun. My brother made her macaroni and cheese recipe tonight, which was 100% comfort food. I fly back to Nashville tomorrow, and **Mrs Magill** will come Saturday with **Fang** and **Squeaky**. I would stay, but the Y needs someone to be local for **Spike** , and I don’t think my back would take nine hours in the car. ---

Yesterday would have been her eighty-first birthday. My father and sister went to her favorite restaurant to raise a toast to her. Five months later, it still hurts. I am glad she’s no longer suffering, but still… ---
