I love home made tomatoes

Well, now y’all have done it. I went to the nursery yesterday and spent $60 on various garden items. I’m gonna try that tomato in a bag of compost method (got a couple of Roma tomato plants, mmmmmMMMMMMmmm), and try, once more, to grow strawberries. We are also making our annual Sacrifice of the Fig Tree. Every year for the past 15 years, we’ve planted a fig tree. Every year, it DIES. Sometimes it dies right away, and sometimes it holds out til the next spring. We’re trying a different cultivar this year, though.

robin, have you thought about bottling up the tomatoes, or cooking/freezing the pulp for later use?

On Sunday just gone (yes it WAS 40 degrees and I AM mad) The Bloke presented me with a bloody great bag of little tomatoes which, after much cooking and sweating, was duly made into 12 big jars of spicy tomato relish. It’s really lovely, with a consistency between chutney and tomato sauce. Just google for some great recipes, and in all honesty (provided you don’t do it on a hot day) it’s dead easy.

Yeah, I’ve thought of it, but it’s too much like hard work! I’m not too worried, really. I’m just relishing my tomatoey abundance!

Orright, don’t come complaining in the depths of winter that you didn’t do any bottling then OK?
