I know, it’s terribly sad that I’m this ecstatic over a mere household appliance. (I must be officially old…gah!) Well, I can’t help it. I’m pregnant. I can’t have alcohol. I’m too big now to dance and passion is out of the question. The vacuum will have to suffice in the excitement department…Basically I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. The dust bunnies in my house were taking over and becoming more like dust wolverines… It was expensive. More than I wanted to spend…but dang, this thing has some serious suction! I love, love, ADORE my vacuum! And no more bags! Yay! 🙂

Anyone else have a Dyson?

We just got one about a month ago. It’s great. The weird thing is, the house seems to stay cleaner longer. I think it gets so much more dog and cat hair up that the ‘hidden’ stuff doesn’t get kicked up from just walking around.

And, the shop-vac suction hose is nice. It won’t replace a regular shop vac, but for an upright it has a tremendous amount of suction. And it’s easy to use. As long as your vacuuming, just return the vacuum to an up right postion and all the suction is diverted to the hose. Get all the crap off the TV, or the base board or whatever, and then continue on with the up-right. Takes like 2 seconds.

It’s the quietest vacuum I’ve ever owned too.

Mine picks up a ton more doghair.

It also does wonder on doghair on the upholstry.

AND I can do the kitchen floor with it. With my old vaccuum, I would feel the dirt being blown out the back of the vaccuum as I went across the floor.

The BEST thing is that it got all the dog hair out of my car. For some reason, car upholstery seems to have more dog-hair-clinging properties than couches. I could NEVER do that with either of my old vaccuums!

The only thing I don’t like is that it’s way too powerful for throw rugs. I’m not talking rag rugs, but hefty, thick rugs that are in the kitchen or in front of the door. The thing sucks them up and makes a nasty noise ☹ (unless I bend it just right)

We should start a support group. I have a massive fetish for kitchen appliances, I keep buying things I really don’t need. Like the ice cream maker I’m eyeing. And the pizza stone. And the retro-looking food beater (i have beaters already!)

But a dyson vacuum is looking really good about now… \<covet\>

Stop! I’m crying and yearning, all at the same time. I’m tempted to go fondle things in Sears right now. I want an ice cream maker. Pizza stone… (where’s the drooling smilie).

I really want a toaster oven too. I oogle them regularly in target.

I could always find a way for my vacuum to have an “accident”. Then what choice do I have but to get a new one… a nice new dyson. aaaahhhhhh this is better than sex sometimes.

The Dyson is probably one of the best “reinventions” ever. It’s soooo good, my fiances allergies have cleared to a minimum. The lack of dust is one thing, but the cat hair is another. I cannot believe how much cat hair this thing pick up. That’s just the open end of the hose!

It’s well worth the money. The vaccum is sturdier than most. It IS the quietest vaccum we’ve ever had. The only downfall about this vaccum is that it doesn’t hold as much.

Yep the capacity is not as much, but it is sooooo easy to empty.

Push button, release container. Hold over garbage bag. Push button, release dirt. Snap back into place.

I may have to call on ole Vito and his bag of small metal parts. Five minutes alone with my vac, he may have good…er, bad news for me… heh heh.

I never put mine away because it’s nice to look at (not because I’m lazy and all my cupboards are full of booze, or anything)

I like it (I’m a reserved English chap, that’s all you’ll get from me). It works great -until the filter gets bunged up, cleaning that is a bit of chore and you have to wait for it to dry before you can get back to fighting the dirt.

It is fun/scary to see the filth gathering in the drum, I don’t have a pet so I only have human debris to blame ( I shed all those skin cells? )

I would love to try one out - problem is, I spent a fortune on a Kirby about 3 years ago. Nothing wrong with it. It does a very good job. But it weighs 18000 pounds. And the bags fill up pretty quick with 3 (big) dogs and 3 cats.

Maybe there’s a Dyson dealer that takes trade-ins 😃

Why stop there? If you want to covet a vacuum, have a gander at Kirby. Massive, heavy shiny metal parts. Purchase price that’s more than some folks’ mortgage payment. We’ve got one, (ten bucks on eBay and a lot of scrubbing - yeeha!) and it’s literally too strong for our carpet. Sucks the carpet right off the floor - it’s old and stretched out. Until we can afford new carpet, we “make do” with an Electrolux that isn’t so powerful.

Oh, as for beaters, why get retro-looking, when you can have real retro. Look for a Sunbeam Mixmaster Model 11 or 12 on eBay in chrome.

I’ve been scouting ebay for the mixmasters for a few days now, but kitchen appliances seem to be in short supply on the aussie portal, and I’m not screw to fuck around with power adaptors and postage to get one from the US. So for now I covet one of the shiny, new but old looking ones.

Oooh. I just then found one. [this](http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20668&item=4396264861&rd=1) is what I want, but $220? Eekness.

I firmly stand by my opinion that a Dyson is inherently “cool” for a guy to use, because it acts (and sounds) so much like a Transformer toy.

_click_ _bzzzzzt_ _click_ Autobots! Roll out!

And I sadly never get tired of the “my vacuum really sucks!” joke.

Yeah – my Dyson sucked a piece of fringe RIGHT OFF my Indian throw rug and got it wrapped around the brush. A few minutes to unwind it. Fortunately you can’t see where the string got yanked out.

I’ve since learned to:

- Vaccuum the middle
- Use a Dustbuster for the edges with the fringe
- Roll up and put out of the way to vaccuum the rest of the carpet

I lurves me my Dyson, I does. (I have two huge Maine Coons)

I thought my Dyson was pretty swell until I got one of [these](http://www.rainbowsystem.com/eng/product.cfm). Absolutely the best vacuum cleaner ever. And apparently they last forever (my dad, who sells these, talked to a lady a few weeks ago who had been using hers for fifty  years, and he routinely sees people who’ve had them for 20 or 25 years.).

So far our Dyson has picked up: Cat hair. Dried cat barf (I know,). Itty bitty metal bits from a computer case I was cutting into, including a couple of stray screws. MASSIVE cage detritus from two very playful pet rats who seem to revel in flinging it out of the cage while wrestling. Cobwebs from 1992. Cat litter. Ground in cat litter. Cat litter nearly glued to the baseboards. The cat (accidently! Fortunately, she bolted before it got too awful). White stuff we don’t know what it is but there it was, in the dust cup (anthrax?). A few pennies, paperclips, probably billions of dead dust mite bodies and one quarter I actually dug out (yuck).

I loves me some Dyson.

Our two cats shed several tons of hair each month, and just one vacuuming of the living room fills the Dyson container.

The big question is, what can be done with all that soft (albeit dirty) cat hair? Wash it and stuff pillows? Use as confetti? Shame to waste it when the cats worked so hard to grow it.

Great, now I’m getting appliance lust, too. I’ve been coveting a Dyson for some time.
