I do all my shopping at Publix, where I can use coupons and they don’t have any kind of reward card. I avoid Kroger as much as possible for that reason.
My wife shops at Kroger but I live in denial about it.

I love my loyalty card! They send great coupons on stuff I buy all the time to my house. I can download coupons directly onto my card.
Interesting. Of all the reasons I might have posited that people didn’t like the shopper cards, “Stalker might apply for a job at the grocery store, get hired, and then have access to my personal information and go to my house” was not one of them. You would think it would be easier for the stalker to just hang out at the grocery store until he sees you, and then follow you to your house. Stalkers are getting cleverer and cleverer by the day, I’ll tell you.
I also get money off gas with my advantage card!
He did that and we literally went around the same 2 square blocks four times until he turned off. I wasn’t stupid enough to actually go home after he followed me for the first three turns towards my house.
Either way, the point stands that it is remarkably easy for anyone to look up your personal info. Same goes for the library - you can search by last name of anyone at all on a computer, and you only have to be a low level employee. CEO’s, pro athletes, an ex girlfriend, the guy who didn’t hire you at the last place you interviewed…anyone you want to stalk or hound or harass.
I use my King Soopers(Colorado) card at Krogers(Michigan). It blows their little cashier minds.
“But do you have a Kroger’s card?”
“Yes, you’re holding it”
“No, But Ummmmmm”
I used to be one of those people. Then one day it dawned on me that I always paid with the same credit card. :smack:
What a coincidence! I do too!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
I love my Big Y card. If I actually put in the effort and buy things that are on sale, I can easily buy over $300 worth of food for under $200. When they have buy one get two sales, I stock up on meat and bread (love my chest freezer). The last time, I got over $200 worth of steak, roasts, and pork loins, for about $75. This is for only 2 people so it lasts us a really long time. I stocked up about 9 months ago and we’re just now starting to run out of meat. My boyfriend hates going shopping with me because it pains him to see a total over $100 but he finally got the point when he learned to look at the savings line.
We also have a small locally owned grocery store. The selection is much smaller but they don’t require a reward card and I can frequently get and entire cart filled with food for under $80.
Me too. I let my points build up, so that once a month I can fill my tank at a discount of 50 cents off per gallon.
no reason to use your real address when you apply for the card.
last time I applied for a card (Kroger) I got coupons in the mail for a free pound of butter, a free package of Oscar Mayer weiners, a free package of Oscar Mayer Bologna, a free bag of Dole packaged salad, a free loaf of bread, and several other high value coupons. If I had used a fake address like I usually so, I wouldn’t have gotten the coupons, so YMMV.
I learned this from someone on the internet.
If you don’t want to apply for a card, and don’t want to bother carrying one, just give them a phone number. If you use (area code) 867-5309, it’s almost always in the system, and if you say it as “Eight Sixty Seven <beat> Five Three <beat> Zero Nine” people tend not to even notice that it’s Jenny’s.
Or you could just go to Publix, where there are no rewards cards and everybody gets all the sales. Oh, you don’t have a Publix? My condolences. I’m going there right now to enjoy my extremely clean grocery store with excellent customer service and fantastic store brands.
Who’s Jenny?
In the early 80’s, the group “Tommy Tutone” had a huge hit with the pop song 867-5309/Jenny.
In the UK we use a Tesco Clubcard (for fuel and groceries). Currently we can use our clubcard points to purchase vouchers for some chain restaurants (main menu only, no drinks) at a rate of £3 for £1 worth of vouchers (and it was £4 for £1). We have had meals out totalling over £250 in the last year from groceries and fuel alone (although we may have built up a years worth of points to start with). Best use of spending power I can think of.
Si
If I use a fake name, won’t they still get my real name when I pay with a credit card?
That’s why cash was invented.
