Stoid, bacon over here is by no means uncooked. It is just cooked and treated differently to the alleged-bacon of the US. 😉
Yosemite:
What about the guy who took his computer apart because his printer wouldnt work?

Why do the Mac and PC users fight so much. BOTH kinds of computers are great for downloading pornography!

TwistofFate: You mean [Bill Swan?](http://www.apple.com/switch/ads/billswan.html) I am not sure he actually tore apart his PC because of the printing problems. It seemed to me as if he had moved on to another subject when he started to talk about pulling apart the PC (his dialog was edited). I think he was merely trying to say that he was the guy who did all the fixing and upgrading. (“I was the maintenence man”.) [Read more of his story here.](http://www.apple.com/switch/stories/billswan.html)

Yeah, some of the ads make the people look like morons. That Ellen Feiss girl, no matter how adorable some of you think she is with her “beep beep beep beep”, well, to me, she looks like a brain dead surfer chick.

I guess my point is, far from all of the people in these ads are morons. Actually, I doubt many of them are. Bill Swan probably isn’t a moron. His complete story (in the second link he gave) made him sound like an average guy who was sick of being the “maintenence man” of all the computers in the house. A lot of people can identify with that.

yes, but that calls in the assumption that
a) Mac’s never need maintenance

and

b) PC’s constantly do.

A computer is a tool. It dosent matter who makes the tool as long as it gets the job done.

British bacon (the “strrrrrrrrreaky bacon” of which The Two Fat Ladies spoke), is wonderous good and not soggy or partially cooked\*. It’s yummy.

But so is American bacon.

I demand, as an American, access to _both_ kinds of bacon. Multiple servings of both. At every meal! And Pancakes! And Waffles! And _REAL_ maple syrup, not those awful vagely apricot flavored “artificial maple-like foodstuff product” And Eggs over-easy. And hash browns. And coffee, freshly ground and made! And…

'cuse me. I gotta go get breakfast.

Huh?

For some of us, Macs need less maintenence than PCs. Or rather, Windows needs more troubleshooting than Macs. That may not be your experience, but it was the experience of Bill Swan, and many other folks. I think that’s what these people were saying. They’d tried PCs (some for many years, for their business, etc.) and they found them to be a huge pain. For whatever reason, that was their experience. Even the Windows LAN administrator and the IT Director. They found something lacking in PCs, so they switched to Macs. That may not be your experience, but so what? The ads featured them, not you. You are perfectly able to speak for yourself, just as they speak for themselves, and their personal experiences. That’s all these ads are about, IMO. These people speaking about their personal experiences, and why they prefer Macs.

I think that was exactly the point many of these people were making. Macs were a tool that got the job done better for them. _For them._ Only Macs run the Mac OS. And I have no doubt that all these people considered the Mac OS as their “tool” of choice. So they prefer Macs.

Well you kinda have me here, but I really wasn’t talking about the mac ads so much as ads in general. I pretty much tossed out the mac ads because most of the problems that people complain about are non issues for me and my computer uses. I put windows xp on my maching and I havent looked back once. printers, burners, web cams, hubs, routers are ALL plug and play with xp and some basic pc knowledge. how much easier can it possibly get? I have never used a mac and don’t have any plans to but if I were exposed to the wonders that are macs I seriously doubt I would switch, at least based on what the ads are saying to me.
and btw De La Soul are an old school rap group, cool stuff.

“IT Director Gianni Jacklone has been working with Windows for 10 years and Unix for 7, and he’s hated Macs all that time. Until OS X came out… “It’s the bomb”, he says.”

this one is great, cause it could be me talking about windows and windows xp.

And by extention, Mac users (and Apple) are using these people as examples of how Mac’s are better than PC’s.

I have never used a mac so I cannot (and do not) say which one is better. I just think that Mac vs. PC arguments are flawed.

On both sides, no doubt. But that doesn’t stop all the die-hard PC geeks from pestering me and many other Mac users, day in and day out. That doesn’t stop PC geeks from starting these threads. Say—when was the last time a Mac geek started a platform war thread? I can’t recall. I can’t say that a Mac geek has never done it, but I just can’t remember when.

The reason _anyone_ chooses a particular product over another is because they believe it is better—_for them._ Take the Ford/Chevy debate, for instance. I couldn’t care less, and I am sure whichever vehicle I drove would suit me fine. But for some people, this is a serious matter. I had a long conversation a while ago with a fellow about this issue. There were differences he noticed in Ford vs. Chevy, and strengths in one brand of vehicle that made him prefer it. To him, this one brand (I think it was Chevy) was “better”, and he had good reasons to back it up. His friends, he said, had compelling reasons to prefer the other brand of vehicle. They all had their reasons, and I’m sure they were good ones. Same here. So what’s the big deal, anyway?

Couple of things. Firstly, you have those who need to brag about how their object of choice is the bestest thing ever in the history of the world, who use mockery in order to brag.

Some people don’t like having their choices mocked. By making fun of the things they have chosen to own, you are - by extension - making fun of them. _“You’re a big poopiehead, you own that poopie thing. It’s got cooties and so do you. Only a poopiehead with cooties would have one of **those**.”_

And then the pissing contests start.

Or, you can have a kind of reverse snobbery. How dare someone have something better than _I_ do? So they defend their object of choice by mockery.

Which, once again leads us to:

Some people don’t like having their choices mocked. By making fun of the things they have chosen to own, you are - by extension - making fun of them. _“You’re a big poopiehead, you own that poopie thing. It’s got cooties and so do you. Only a poopiehead with cooties would have one of **those**.”_

And, yet again, the pissing contests start.

Either way, it comes across as being pretty childish, but there ya go. You’ll see people do it about almost anything; What bands they like, games they play, movies they watch, cars they drive.

Me? I’m happy with my Speak and Spell.

Buy a two-button mouse that right-clicks. Or hold down “control” and click, which does the same thing on a Mac as right-clicking does on Windows.

File --\> Print. If the printer’s not set up, check the Apple Menu --\> Chooser and select it. If it needs to be installed you normally put the CD that came with the printer in the drive and drag an icon that has the name of your printer onto the System Folder icon on your hard drive, and it installs.

Why would I want to build a computer? Or anything? Some of us loathed machinery and electronics, and just want things to work. My two Dells never worked properly or reliably. All five of the Macs I’ve owned have. That’s enough for me.

How does one quantify the experience? The sublime pleasure in the crackle of silvery anti-static component bags and the zipping noise of cable ties, the joy of rooting around in parts bins for the perfect short coarse-thread screws to mount the hard drive, the craftsmanship of ribbon-cable routing, the Zen state of calm before that first glorious power-up…
