I think the thing that gets me the most is the idea that the big safe in the vault has a combination which changes several times a day (sure) and then they take that super secure combination, print it on a piece of paper, and then give it to Andy Garcia, who then walks around carrying it. What the hell does he do with it? Why does it have it on his person at all? What’s the context in which that’s useful? And isn’t it obvious to everyone involved that that’s a MASSIVE MASSIVE hole in the security setup?

“You’re cold decking Teen Beat cover boys” to be specific.

And I love how Topher is living in (and trashing) Rusty’s hotel in Ocean’s Twelve.

Of course, what can be easy to miss is that he is specifically saying Rusty is cheating them. Cold decking literally means to substitute another deck of cards, once you have loaded, for a shuffled deck.

Which means, of course, that the instant he saw Danny, he and Danny swiftly worked a con for him to feed Danny the four-of-a-kind hand, without even having to discuss it.

> I’m an unabashed fan of the whole trilogy, and the more I see Ocean’s Twelve the more I appreciate it. Why? Because it feels like Soderbergh giving one big “Fuck you” to Hollywood.

I can’t get past the point that they go through all these ridiculous plans (most of which end up failing) to get the egg, but it turns out they had it all along. So they were making all those plans…why? Then add in the stupid joke that Julia Roberts looks like Julia Roberts, and that a impenetrable laser field can be foiled by break dancing, and I ended up feeling like I was the target of the “fuck you”, not Hollywood.

Ocean’s 11 had plot holes, but all the surprises along the way were earned. I could watch it fifty times and still enjoy it every time.

Remember how Benedict figures out that the criminals made a duplicate of the vault, because the real one had the name of the hotel inlaid in the floor? He says something like “we had it installed last week.”

Really, you’ve got this super-duper-secret, impenetrable vault, that’s protected by lasers, and needs multiple different keys just to get anywhere near it, and then you let a couple of guys in to do some tile work on floor?

I don’t care. The movie is still awesome.

The Ocean’s 13 movie got a _tad_ over-the-top when the heist plan involved using a tunnel boring machine to drill under Las Vegas.

As opposed to the pinch from 11? At least tunnel boring machines actually exist.

The plot of Ocean’s Eleven and the plot of The Sting both have similar flaws in how they stretch credulity. The intelligence gathering necessary to make the heists work border on clairvoyance and magic. Don’t care; love both movies.

The movie itself is bad, the plot beyond generic
The actors, characters, and the dialogue are supreme.

I think it was on SMDB where someone said you need to look at all adventure movies as existing in a world with the multiverse splitting off at each decision point.

What you are watching is the one in infinity version where everything went just right.

> I will say I really enjoyed “Ocean’s 8,” as a related point. Again, goddamn murderer’s row of a cast there.

Ocean’s 8 doesn’t work for me.

I don’t mind them hiding the real heist from the audience, I do mind them hiding the real heist from their co-heisters. Combined with bringing in Yen… it retroactively spoiled the movie for me. Still, even though the movie is disappointing, I want to be Cate Blanchett in Ocean’s 8 when I grow up.

Ocean’s 11 is one of the movies that I’ll rewatch whenever it shows up on TV, it just fits together perfectly - all the tiny throwaway lines and scenes wrap around to mean something later on. And it’s so fun.

That breakdancing scene is one of my all-time favorite movie scenes though. The little heel kick at the end? :chef’s kiss:

It’s not in my nature to be mysterious, but I can’t talk about it, and I can’t talk about why. . .

And the look on Matt Damon’s face when his Mom asks “Did he pull a lost in translation on you?” ROFL!

Yeah no, I loved them all, and I just don’t get the hate for twelve.
