Well, it certainly _can_ be. Either between close friends, or a in a closed group, offensive terms can be used in another way. I won’t go into the psychology of it, but just say it definately happens. Generally a bit jokingly, but certainly. Think “verbal male horseplay.” However, I bet it wasn’t _here_. You can’t just go up to someone at random and call them a cunt\*. You have to know them well first. \*It’s like the ‘calling someone a taxi’ joke but the other way round. ---

Eh, sure it can be a term of endearment. When referring to a body part, that is. I refer to a certain part of my girlfriend as being a cunt. Unfortunately, it’s her left eye. Her right eye, on the other hand, I refer to as “fuck hole.” ---

I’m currently making a movie. One of my actresses had to say the line “So-and-so will kiss my ass!” In rehearsal, she objected because she said “My grandma will see this.” So what did she agree to say? “So-and-so will kiss my cunt!” So apparently, “cunt” is more grandma-friendly than “ass”. You heard it here first. ---

Where I grew up, in the Massachusetts North Shore, I would hear the word “cunt” used affectionately. Girlfriends would call eachother a cunt in the same manner that guys would call eachother assholes. It’s an insult, but not really. Of course, this doesn’t mean that the school president isn’t full of shit. I like the idea of comparing the behavior of a school football team to a fraternity. The school should ask itself a question: If a fraternity did this, would we kick them off campus? If the answer is yes, then they should be held to the same standard. At my college, several Fraternities and Sororities were kicked off campus for doing things that weren’t nearly as bad as the crap that the football team pulled. They have a different standard from regular students at most schools, I would imagine. ---

The reporter asks “Because of her ability?” and he responds “Well, it was obvious that Katie was not very good. She was awful. Y’know what guys do? They respect your ability. I mean, you can be 90 years old but if you can go out there and play, they’ll respect you. Katie was a girl and not only that, she was terrible.” A few seconds later, a reporter asks if the coach believes if her lack of ability would be any justification for Katie’s alleged treatment and the coach answers “No, absolutely not. No one should be treated that way.” In other words, he was _not_ “trying to deflect questions”, he directly answered a question honestly about her (obvious) lack of ability, was honest enough to say that the guys resented having an incompetent player on the team and, in addition, said that it “absolutely” would not be justified to treat her that way. Watch it and see if he says _anything_ like **Jimmy** ’s fake quote about how it’s ok to rape her because she was an incompetent. (It’s a long interview, but the “a girl, and not only that, she was terrible” quote comes about 12 minutes in. On the other hand, since (IIRC) Betsy Hoffman was the one who suspended the coach on the basis of the phoney accusation that **Jimmy** repeated, I’m delighted to see her hoist by her own petard. When she suspended him, she said something like “I know he didn’t actually say that it was ok to allegedly rape her since she was a rotten player, but we’ve got our appearances to consider” (_very_ paraphrased quote). So, seeing her squirm over almost exactly the same situation, (She was responding to a question by one of the _plaintiff’s_ attornies and what’s she gonna say? “Yup. It’s harassment and I’ve just blown our defense in this lawsuit, haven’t I?” :dubious: ) is giving me a pleasant sense of schadenfreude. I don’t care much about football and I loathe Boulder and CSU just on general principles, but I hate seeing Barnett railroaded with the phoney quote above. Fenris ---

CU has always had a bizzare relationship to football. When I went there the team was horrible. We had one win the whole year I was in the marching band. At the same time the library was in serious danger of loosing acredidation. That year they increased our student fees to cover some project for the football team but didn’t do anything for the library. ---

I can aver from my near-photographic memory of books I read, from the day that I snuck _Lady Chatterly’s Lover_ out of my parents’ room and read it cover to cover, that ‘cunt’ is used in there in a rather…romantic manner. It still left me feeling rather oogy, as did the entire book before and after that point. I was fifteen, what d’ye expect? Oh, and I almost never use the word. I certainly don’t use it to speak of the body part, but I haven’t really found a slang word I _like_ for it. They all sound either foul or infantile to me. _shrugs_ But I HAVE been known to use it as a form of very harsh invective. See, for me, you got your jerks, and then your assholes, and then your bastards, your rat bastards, your _fucking_ rat bastards, and then, ladies and gentlemen, the almighty cunt. ---
