Sneaky??? That is one determined little Beagle! I’m surprised he didn’t break his fool neck!

> And while you’re right, most dogs can’t jump a 6 foot fence, remember that after a long cold winter with no above freezing temps, that 6 foot fence can turn into a 3 foot fence if the snow drifts back into a corner.

Or a kennel with a fence along the top and a concrete floor.

I have zero tolerance for menacing dogs. They are _terrifying_ to me. Tough shit if she already has issues pending with her dog. She didn’t care enough to control the dog’s activities and now she has to pay the price. I have no sympathy for her.

People ought to be able to prove they know how to care for a species before they’re allowed to adopt a member of it. News flash, moron Rhymer Neighbor: **dogs aren’t people**. Now the poor animal will probably be killed and she’ll just get a new dog to fuck up all over again.

I strongly disagree. How does a person who wants a dog but hasn’t had one ‘prove’ that they know how to take care of it. Everyone needs to start somewhere - and in parenting and pet ownership, that means taking a big risk. But MOST of us manage to do a serviceable job.

Now, once you’ve managed to screw up in multiple ways (and this woman has at least two strikes - the dog is aggressive and the dog is not properly contained - either one of these - depending on the neighborhood - might be OK, but both of them are right out pretty much anywhere in the U.S.) I’m not sure she should be permitted ANOTHER dog.

I’m sorry, you seem to have mistaken hyperbole for an actual position. I’ve also been known to rant that they should license people to breed. The arbiter in all of these cases is, of course, intended to be **me**.

Sorry, its hard to tell hyperbole in writing…and I had a bad experience trying to adopt a dog from a rescue agency who held that very position - since I hadn’t owned a dog in fifteen years, I wasn’t a proven dog owner and wasn’t worthy to adopt one of their dogs.

We adopted a dog from another rescue agency, but the position left a bad taste in my mouth.

Eh, I think they should just strap people down and make them watch a full season of _The Dog Whisperer_.

A friend of mine tells the story of one of his neighbors who had a dog that they wouldn’t control. The dog wasn’t aggressive, but it would crap all over my friends yard. Discussions with the neighbor were not fruitful.

My friend started dripping a little bacon grease on the doggie droppings. After a few days, no more dog crap in the yard.

When the neighbor was told ‘by the way, a dog will eat _anything_ with bacon grease on it’ and how dog turds were being treated in my friends yard, the neighbors found the willpower to keep the dog in their own yard.

See? Recycling pays.
