# I muted a forum but it doesn’t seem to be working

I went to one of the forums, went to the little bell option, and clicked mute for that forum (and confirmed that it stayed clicked after I went out and then came back in). When you do that mute option, it says “ Muted -  
You will never be notified of anything about new topics in these categories, and they will not appear in latest.”

And yet, every time I go to Latest, there are some posts from that forum. Shrug emoji.

Well, I don’t know what the problem is but in my case the muted forums stay muted.

I don’t use the “latest” option usually, but I’ve just tested it to see if topics from muted categories show up on my page. They don’t. It looks as though the muted categories didn’t exist.

I think you muted the thread (topic) rather than the forum (category).

To mute a forum go to your Profile \> Preferences \> Categories, and you’ll see a box for Muted at the bottom. Click on Search to get a list.

It should also be noted that if you ever replied to a thread in one of those forums, the thread will still pop up in your Latest Posts list. Might show up in New, too. I don’t know, since I rarely use that option. But don’t be surprised if it does.
