…was the only thing that kept all of humanity from being enslaved by a rogue civilization of mutant aliens, then I’m afraid we would all be screwed.

I’m with ya. Sometimes I accidentally stumble on a beautifully wrapped package, but generally you can fully expect a thick wad of wrapping paper bulging out of each end of the package and covered in nine layers of tape.

Have no fear…I can save you. Not only do I wrap a mean present…I _like_ to wrap them.
But, if balancing my checkbook or doing long division was our saving grace against the impending horde…it’s not looking good for me.

I found a solution to this problem. Once my first child was old enough to start wanting to wrap packages, I let her. That way, when our family presented someone with a poorly wrapped gift, I could proudly say my daughter wrapped it herself. Unfortunately, this is proving to have been a temporary solution. The younger one is now 11, and she wraps things at least as well as I do. My only hope now is that one of them will get good at it, but then I won’t be able to let her move out, ever.

It’s really not that hard, as long as you’re not trying to wrap something bizarre in shape. Just make sure the paper’s cut to the right size, and go slowly. Pull it tight enough that it’s not sliding around, crease the corners, fold the edges over so the scissor-marks don’t show - honestly, I don’t understand why it’s so hard for people. Buy nice paper, and do it slowly, and it’ll look perfect.

I may not be hard for you, but for some of us it’s like some kind of exotic excercise in a weird combination of origami and performance art.

Ha!, I laugh at you puny humans; you don´t know what gift wrapping is untill you neately package a 1 meter high teddy bear using 1/2 meter wide gift paper in less than 10 minutes. Or when you´re in the gift wrapping desk on Mothers Day, Christmas, etc. What the heck, I even wrapped a bloddy ice-cream!

_P.S: I don´t miss that job, but I´m a mean wrapper now._

I have always hated giftwrapping. The thing I hate the most about it is that you spend all the money and time and put all the effort into something whose _sole purpose on earth_ is to look nice for a minute before being torn, removed, crumpled up and thrown away.
