I need a new bottle of whiskey

The last whisky gift I got my husband was a bottle of Dalwhinnie and everyone loves it.

This year I’m going to get him Glenmorangie Signet for his birthday, but holy crap it is expensive even for Americans, so I can’t imagine what it would go for in Brazil. I’ve read it’s one of those “special occasion” whiskeys-and it’s going to be part of a package gift along with a fugmuppet La Z Boy and tickets to John Oliver (scored yesterday!). December babies always get shorted due to the proximity to Christmas so I decided to splash out this year on his annual whiskey.

There’s a few Piscos on your list that don’t look too crazy expensive, though they’re not really comparable to Scotch, at least the ones we get in the States. They should at least be distinctive.

Really though, I wanted to take issue with your statement about how crappy Brazilian beers are. Eisenbahn is absolutely delicious. (and unavailable in Texas, damn it.) Colorado isn’t bad at all.

Just some thoughts on something for you to try next.

Lagavulin is my first choice, Oban my third. Laphraoig goes in between (and is the cheapest of the three, at least around here).

Jameson? <shudder> Make mine Bushmill’s.

For someone who thinks Black Label is too sharp, those would be poor choices. They’d also be horrifyingly expensive in Brazil.

Glenlivet, Glenfiddich and Glenmorangie are all great “beginner” whiskeys, but apparently quite expensive.

Stay away from anything with Islay or Highland on the label.

Of the scotches, I’d try the Dewar’s 12 (not White Label).
