I am doing a photo calendar for 2006. I can add up to 20 holidays. I plan on putting in some birthdays but only about 7-8. I’d like to add some odd holidays. One of the days that I have is May 4- Star Wars Day ("May the 4th be with you). I once ran across a Scandahoovian pun holiday that was similar. Does anyone know that or have other holidays to suggest? thanks, whistlepig ---

September 22nd is Hobbit day. As in Have a Happy Hobbit Day. The shared birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. September 12, 1966 was the original air date of the original Star Trek episode. ---

Well, there’s always Parade Day – March 4th (forth). 😃 And Talk Like a Pirate Day, just recently, but I forget the exact date. ---

How about August 8, which is “National Sneak a Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch Night”? The nature of the associated festivities is obvious. This charming harvest festival commemorates the fact that amateur gardeners who grow zucchini always end up with tons more of them than they can persuade reluctant friends and relatives to accept as gifts. No, I did not make this up. ---

Another calendar maker here. One of my favorite resources is Chase’s Calendar of Events. It has holidays, birthdays, TV show premier dates, famous moments in history, fairs and festivals, etc. It’s expensive, but perhaps your library might have a copy of last year’s edition. ---

October 23rd is Mole Day! It’s based on the number 6.02 x 10 to the 23rd so you celebrate at 6:02 (am or pm or both). You can dress up as a mole and serve guacamole (made from real Avogadros…). ---

The oddest holiday I ever heard of was Malvinas day in Argentina (June 12 or 13). As it was explained to me by my Argentine colleagues this was the day commemorating when they surrendered the Falkand Islands (Islas Malvinas) back to the UK. It’s hard to imagine the USA celebrating the fall of Saigon, for example. Or the Brits commemorating Cornwallis’ surrender at Yorktown.
