Founding Father: Rediscovering George Washington by Richard Brookhiser is an excellent short bio of the Father of His Country, and in a very witty, interesting way shows how GW overcame quite a few hurdles in life to rise to greatness.
Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow is a very big book, but well worth your time. Hamilton overcame the taint of illegitimacy and, by his own genius and hard work, became a leader of the infant United States.
