I need some good podcasts

Well…let’s see… in the spirit of full disclosure I am not a full-time voice-over actor. I have the luxury of having a day job and doing voice work for fun and additional income (hence the podcasts…fun, but free). So I don’t fret unnecessarily over my voice. I also sing in several ensembles, so I am generally careful about the pipes…but I will give a good yell at a ball game.

Should I start a “Ask the Voice-Over Guy” thread? Is there a way to link from here, thereby providing the background and saving me from looking like a pompous ass?

The Naked Scientist – British show covering scientific issues for the (advanced) layman
TEDtalks – video podcast of lectures on an array of topics. Usually interesting, occasionally fascinating.

Also, I don’t know if Logically Critical is still available since it’s stopped production, but if you can get hold of the archives, it was brilliant.

I’m also a big fan of the NPR shows mentioned above, as well as the weekly Piano Puzzler from American Public Radio.

Lots of great lectures from the University of California at uctv.tv.
The categories are Arts & Music, Health & Medicine, Public Affairs, Science, Humanities, Business, Education Issues, And Gardening and Agriculture.

Two more great podcasts I forgot to mention.

The Tobolowsky Files: Stephen Tobolowsky is an actor you would recognize if you saw him. He was Ned, the insurance salesman in Groundhog Day, and he has had hundreds of other (mostly bit) parts. He tells stories. Awesome podcast; read his reviews on iTunes! You will thank me if you listen.

Old Jews Telling Jokes: They’re old, Jewish, and they tell jokes. What’s not to like? I’ve heard most of these before, but I love watching the short videos.

Another one that’s sorta hit and miss is
“Tell 'em Steve-Dave”- It’s basically a spin-off of Kevin Smith’s SmodCast, with his (not really that famous) childhood friends Bryan Johnson and Walt Flannigan from NJ just talking to each other and shooting the shit. It’s extremely cynical and slightly twisted, but listening to them talk to each other- you can totally see where the characters of Dante and Randall came about in Clerks. These two guys basically are just that- the living inspiration it seems for those guys.
So if you’re a SmodCast super-fan, it’s worth a listen, and it just started updating on a weekly schedule (they go up on Fridays, and SmodCast goes up on Sundays).

Yes, yes, and yes. I mentioned it earlier in this thread, but it bears repeating.

Oh wow, you did at that! You have great taste. And it bears repeating again.

Try the NPR Story Corps podcast – especially if you like to cry every few minutes.

Just a quick post to thank kayaker and Mauvaise — I’m totally in love with the Tobolowsky Files! Thank you very much.

I’m getting so much more walking done with great podcasts to listen to, thanks to this thread.

I’d like to thank whoever mentioned The Tolkien Professor. It was in a similar thread from a while ago, not this one though.

I’m so glad! I feel like shill sometimes because I can’t stop recommending it to people, even if I don’t know if they even listen to podcasts. It’s just that good.

I listened to the stories about his trip to Iceland, the accident and recovery Saturday and I was in tears more than once. He’s incredible! Tobolowsky shills unite!

I thought this was an old thread - I came by to thank whoever recommended ANSWER ME THIS - free on itunes.

Homespun answers of listeners questions on anything from the inane to profane. As it’s not that thread, allow me to recommend it.

MiM

I’m addicted to my podcasts. I love all of my NPR podcasts, most of which have already been mentioned as well as Nerdist, CDR, and Savage Lovecast. But I also really enjoy **Too Beautiful To Live **(TBTL), KEXP Song of the Day, and Open Source Sex.

As with NPR, there are a bunch of KEXP podcasts and all of them are fantastic.

Thanks to Luke Burbank, I’m a Ten.
