Seriously though hon, you do need to think long and hard, it is a permanent decision. I have 3, 2 I wish I never got now. I feel somewhat restricted in my clothing choices at fancier events, etc. It’s not advisable to just go get one on a whim, which is pretty much what everyone else has told you. OH, another piece of advice, if you do decide to get one, ask around, go for quality, there are a lot of untalented tattoo artists out there.
If you’re not sure, then wait. You can always change your mind later. Yes, I know you can have them removed with laser. Ever seen it done. It’s a hell of a lot more painful than the tattoo.
If you’re the type to worry about what others think, don’t get it.
Is there a part of the body that, when aged and full of wrinkles, doesn’t look like crud? Think about it.
If you’re doing it because “it’s cool”, don’t get one.
I have nine, with the largest being a sun that covers my entire back. I do not, or will not ever regret getting them or any that I will get in the future.
Think for yourself.
A tattoo is more permanent than a marriage these days so make sure you’re ready for that kind of committment. I’ve had my tattoo for 5 years now and don’t regret it a bit. It’s got great color and has a special meaning for me. It’s on the lower left side of my back so it only gets seen if I show it to someone or when I wear a bathing suit (which isn’t too often!)
Follow the advice of the others though… check out the shop, watch the artist, make sure they open a fresh needle, and choose a design you like and can live w/forever. Good luck.
I got my first on a whim in San Francisco. It is a hummingbird on my right hip. I really wanted a tattoo, and had to put it in a place where my mom wouldn’t see it.
I don’t regret getting it, but I was about 40 pounds lighter when I got it, and now it looks like it was drawn with a magic marker.
Mr Twylight has a Celtic band around his left bicep, and he said that the underneath part hurt like hell. His also lost some color due to sun exposure, but that’s his own fault.
I got my second tat on my left ankle, and it’s a ying-yang, with the sun on one side and the moon on the other. It is just as bright as the day I got it, but there is a small smudge where I accidentally scratched a scab off. It is a little on the large side, and I kind of wish it was a little smaller, but other than that, I still love it, and it’s been there about 5 years now.
Good luck!
