I object and demand a retraction

Then it was irrelevant to quote and reply to my post, as that post was made wholly and solely in reference to questions about how the wishing harm rule applied to various groups.

Yes you did, under the stated rules of the forum. See post #15

You did read your own post, right? Wishing harm on others is not proscribed in the rules. And I did not wish harm on anyone.

The rules state exactly this:

You said:
The assholes (dopers) who knew about Quasi’s condition could have ignored him. Instead they goaded him. I hope I’m alive long enough to see them deteriorate so I can laugh at them (wishing death/physical harm).
Red words mine.

Now either you’re attempting to weasel lawyer your way out of a corner or you’re deliberately being stubbornly dense about the obvious.

Yes laughing at someone is wishing harm on them. Why didn’t I realize that

And I resent that ‘lawyer’ crack. I demand a retraction.

Here’s a retraction.

So, how’s your retraction demand working for you Tripolar?

Worked fine with stpauler.

Hey Miller! See how easy that was?

The rule as stated is not “do not wish harm”.

The rule, as stated, is “do not threaten harm”. TriPolar did not make any threats, except the threat of laughing at someone.

The other part of that rule is “do not wish death”. TriPolar did not wish death on anyone.

I wouldn’t care at all, but Miller said “do not do this again”. So, if TriPolar were to post something similar again, he could be cited for not following moderator instructions, even though the original statement was not a rules violation.

See, that’s it. The do not do this again part. I didn’t violate a rule. I do realize the wishing harm part is arguable, but it’s not the rule. There’s an implication that I violated a rule mixed into the whole mess.

And though I would like a retraction of the statement, my original demand was for a retraction. That could have been accomplished as easily as** stpauler **did it. I didn’t even demand that Miller provide the retraction. And now in that thread, posters are gleefully harming another member, and rejoicing because that is not technically a violation of the rules.

Sometimes I think it’s just not worth getting indignant over trivial matters any more. What has this world come to?

If I were a mod I wouldn’t have issued a warning or a statement not to do it again. You just said you hope you could see people deteriorate (which we all do). That’s not wishing harm or death on someone.

I agree 100% with TriPolar here.

“If it is God’s will that you die in a fire, I hope I am there to see it.”

Over the line?

Dude. No, we don’t. I don’t like a lot of people. Some for saying shit that pissed me off on a message board, some for much better reasons. I’ve never thought, “god I can’t wait until they get some progressive degenerative condition so I enjoy their anguish.”

I have a black heart and all but that is some fucked up shit.

ETA: You know, what, you probably meant we all deteriorate, not we all wish to see others deteriorate.

oops never mind!

Dude, do you seriously claim that **stpauler **retracted?

Did you even look at the link he provided?

He provided a retraction. I argued for strict construction in the interpretation of my post, so I’ll hold to that standard in my demand. Fair’s fair.

Did you look at the “retraction” he gave you?

Yes. It’s a retraction. A pretty good one too. I’m going to use that one myself some day.

If you say Allah instead it can just slide in under the banner of cultural diversity and tolerance.
